Exclamation Javascript Alert Help

Hey, I need some help with a Javascript Alert. I'm looking for a text link, but one that you have to click to get the alert to come up. Also, I found this code, but I don't like how it refreshes the page and takes you back to the top after you hit 'Ok':

<a href="#"onClick="alert('your message here')">your text here</a>

Any suggestions?
