Gimp is a very good program. I'd definitely recommend it.

You can also use Pixia which is available for download at http://www.webattack.com/get/pixia.html

GIMP is rather hard to set up, it all has to be compiled and junk like that. Stick with another if you have no clue about programming, unless of course there is a full version out there with a .exe file to install it that I missed.

Yes, I agree. It was very easy for me to install GIMP. Sure, the file names might sound confusing, but if you go to where they tell you to, you'll have it set up in no time. It's just a matter of reading instructions properly.

From GIMP's main website, there was no installer in any of the files I downloaded. I didn't want to sit there and change tons of files just to install it.

I am just lazy I guess.

The gimp.org website does indeed only distribute the source code, which does have to be compiled. BUT they also link to alternatives (i.e. for Windows they link the WinGIMP SF page, which does have an installer); you do not have to compile it if you do not want to.
