dimensions for a layout

I'm trying to make a layout for a website that I'm trying to make. Does anyone know what dimensions it should be? I want it to fit a 1024 x 768 screen resolution but I don't think it should be those dimensions because it would show up differently in the webpage wouldnt it?

norphar is on a distinguished road
you should try using a percentage for the dimensions for the site so that anyone with any resolution can view with without excessive scrolling
