A friend of mine has very kindly scanned a few pictures for me but a couple of things went wrong with some of them and I don't know how to put them right (or even if there is a way). Can you give me some pointers, please?

Anyway one of the pictures is really pale and whitewashed looking and the other is grainy and you can see all the pixels really badly (they're over here: http://www.eccentrix.com/members/mcutts/photos/fascinating_aida/tuxedo.jpg
and here: http://www.eccentrix.com/members/mcutts/photos/shows/lowbutt.jpg
if you'd like to see what I mean).

Is there a way to increase the colours and iron out the bitty-ness? The problems is that I don't have any image editting software on my computor so would it be possible to do this online? like on a site similar to myimager.com?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks so much :)

Thanks for taking a look, I'm sorry they didn't work. I could see them OK when I posted this am, but when I came back it was 403s all round *scratches head in confusion*. Anyway, I've had another attempt: this should work, fingers crossed.

Well I still can't see them but I'm guessing you'll have to rescan the pictures in higher DPI. Mabey the 403's are because you broke the agreement or they think you are hosting images?

Grrrr, I've just done it again and it's failed. I can't understand why the links won't work. I copied and pasted the link from the address bar too, so I'm befuddled. I'll work on getting them viewable.

Is there any way you could offer any suggestions based on the descriptions?

I'm sorry for the extra post, but in the time it took me to check the pics, the 5 minutes limit had expired. :(

Thanks heaps and I'm really sorry.

Thanks anyway. Looks like I'll just have to put up with them, hey-^^. No problem, really. It was a big favour of my friend so I can't possibly ask him again. Just thought it was worth asking here in case there was anything I could do. Thanks loads :D

If you have Photoshop, the best for retouching photos imho....

For the first one the washed out one...

I'd reccommend :-

1. Open the image in Photoshop

2. Duplicate the layer, so you now have 2 instances.

3. Change the blending mode to something like Multiply or Overlay

In fact mess around with the blending modes till you like one.

Alternatively before you do all this you can go too Image>Adjustments>Auto Levels and that might sort some of the 'washed out' look of the image.

For the second one I'd reccommend using

Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast and playing around with the brightness and contrast.

Similarly you can try the Auto Levels option first as well.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks, but I don't have any Image/graphic editting software ( and I can't afford it right now :( ). Is there anywhere I can do something similar online?
