Alright, now everyone knows how helpful PSDs can be in creating layouts, graphics, etc. Instead of having to rely on PSD sites, I'm gonna explain how make a basic PSD of your own.
1. Find yourself an image you would like to make a PSD of. Copy it.
2. Open a new document in Photoshop. The dimensions will automatically be the same as those of the picture.
3. Paste the picture into the document and zoom in quite a bit. I normally get to about 300 or 400% for extremely detailed pictures.
4. Using the Polygonal Lasso tool (or magnetic lasso, whichever you prefer), begin tracing the outling of the picture. Be sure to select the background instead of the actual person or subject. I usually do this in sections.
5. Press delete after each selection. When you get the background pretty much deleted, there will probably be sharp edges around the person.
6. This may not be necessary, but I use the blur tool and then go around the very edge to make it much smoother.
7. Delete the background layer. It should just be a white layer since pasted images are pasted on a new layer.
8. Take the regular eraser tool and erase the blurred white parts...This is because when you use the blur tool, it blends the edges with white. If you don't erase this white, it makes the picture look like it's glowing or something.
9. After all the excess white has been erased and your edges are smooth and rounded, save your picture as a PSD. That way, you can paste it into your other graphics/layouts and the transparent background will remain transparent!
Voila! You have a wonderful, handy-dandy PSD you made yourself!
