I am going to register a domain name and choose to park it. When I pay for my hosting, is it easy to set up? I'm afraid to set up my site and stuff because I'm not sure I'll know what I'm doing. I have been hosted by other people for a long time, and know a lot of html and ftp for the basics, but managing my own site and domain just seems scary. Is there anybody who'd be willing to talk to me or email me about webmaster stuff?
ok, get your domain and park it for now.
find a good host that will suit your needs.
once you have a host, they will give you a set of numbers for your domain name site to use.
go back to where your domain name is parked. plunk in those sets of numbers. within 48 hours, your domain name will be active and pointing to your hosted webspace.
create and upload your first page "index.html".
you are on your way to greatness :D
it may seem like a lot, but it really isn't. after that you just have to pay the yearly fee for your host and domain name (or longer or shorter time depending on your packages).

thank you so much. that's a lot easier than i thought. lol. :) i'm going to register my domain name now. woo woo
oh. and another question. i am a hostee right now for free as a subdomain, is there a way that i could have my domain name point to that site?
probably not if it is a subdomain, but you can email the current main host of your site to check. it may be possible depending on their setup.
