Alright, I'm not exactly sure what it is I am looking for, but I searched the forums and found posts similiar to what I'm looking for were posted in Website Goodies, so that's where I'm posting. The thing is, the other posts I found weren't what I needed, so here's my question:

I am starting a debate site, where I can post whatever I want (sort of blog) but I want people to be able to reply to this blog.
I'm not looking for a message board or a forum.
What I want is similar to the set up Blogger has, but I want it as my own.
It's sort of hard to explain because I'm not clear on what it would be called.
I saw a site once where the owner could blog, and visitors to the site could reply to the entry, sort of like comments, like on greymatter.
Now, the next thing I want to do with it, is I want people to become members of the site in order to reply, but I'm not sure what I can do with that, and how it would work.

The last catch is that I'm working from a Geocities hosted site, so I probably need a script. If this is really confusing, just post a reply for whatever I need to clarify and I'll do my best to better explain myself. I apologize if it's not clear.

Yep. You'll need a script to do all that. I would reccommend a blogging script of some sort, like b2 (http://cafelog.com) or Movable Type (http://movabletype.org). Or you could get a custom script written for you (costs money).

But, to use a blogging script, you need a host that supports CGI or PHP and MYSQL. Seeing as there aren't that many free hosts with those things, your best bet would to go with blogger.com and then get a free remotely hosted comment system at a place such as haloscan.com. Problem is, geocities.com doesn't allow FTP, which blogger needs to work. What do you do now?!

Well, now you just saddle on over to uk.geocities.com and you have your same username over there as you do on regular geocities.com and just start building your blog over there using blogger. So, its just two letters longer! So what! You can have just your blog there and keep your site on geocities.com or you could move it over.

You could also sign up at an online journal, like http://www.livejournal.com (you need a code for that one), http://www.pitas.com or http://www.diary-x.com and put an iframe on your geocities site that links to your hosted journal.
