I don't even know exactly what it is that I want to make (or if it's possible), so let me try to explain;

First, let me say that my webpage is about a TV show.

I want to make some sort of database, where someone could enter in certain search perameters, so they could find an episode of the show that would fit the criteria of what they want to watch. For example;

One section of options would be choosing a season(s) to include. You could also search for certain guest characters, sub-themes of the show, or other continuing story lines. (And you could choose multiple options). Then, by putting together all of the data entered, the database would tell you what episode of the show matches up to that criteria.

I use AOL Hometown, so this will need to be HTML. Hometown doesn't support php, css, or any of that stuff. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Even if it is telling me, 'Give up honey, there is no way you could do that.' :-)

Thanks,
Sadie

I don't have an advice on how to make this thing, but i do know that PHP is probably the easiest thing to use for that.

this is my advice:

make a temp site of what you are trying to reach. A couple of season pages, a couple of character pages etc etc. Just a small beginning. Don't make it to hard, it's just a kind of portofolio.

Then try to get hosted :)By having that 'temp' site you have an example to view to the host of what you are trying to build. Most hosts want to see your 'unhosted' site so that's why you need to make the temp site.

you don't have too, but most hosts allow PHP, and i'm sure there are also hosts that can help you with it to install and to find scripts etc.

you can't build a database with only html. Well you can, but then you have to edit each site hand by hand when you are switching layouts etc. And that's a pain. Just think about it :) http://www.pick-me.net (if i'm right) has loads of hosts online that are searching for a hostee. But my advice on that is to just visit some domains and see if they have some "hosting" page online where you can apply for hosting.

Good luck !!
