I have tried to get help from my provider but they are useless (I will be changing SOON!). In the meantime, I am hoping you can provide some insight. I received my webspace two weeks ago. Following Lisa' directions I created a html file using wordpad. It is a one sentence webpage but it's a start! Anyway, I followed my provider's instructions and used FTP to transfer my html file into my html folder for my webspace. You would think, then, that when I go to the website that they provided I would see my one sentence webpage. Wrong. I get a page that says index of /~ and my name. Below that is 4 columns (name, last modified, size and description). The first listing is parent.directory which when you click on it takes you to the home page for my provider. The second listing is my html file and when you click on it, it takes you to my one setence webpage. Correct me if I'm wrong but it is not suppose to look like this is it? I have tried multiple times to get help from my provider and all they keep telling me is that I am doing some thing wrong - I am misunderstanding the instructions and not following directions. All they keep doing is resending me the instructions. I believe that I have done everything correctly but since this is my first attempt at creating a website I could be missing something. Any advice would be much appreciated!

From what I understand, you are doing things right. What exactly are you trying to do? What do you need help doing? I know it is hard to start a web page. I will try and help you anyway I can.

i couldn't quite get what you're trying to say....
well, have you tried renaming it into index.html?

see.. after you download and FTP Client. (I have Best FTP Explorer 5th Edition)
Your host name is usually ftp.yourdomainame.com/net/org/nu/whatever
then you provide your username and password.

you upload your files into the public_html folder. Be sure to have an index.html because when you go to your site it will display your index page. just put links from there.

i'm sorry if this is not your problem, well... i tried. xP

Your one sentance html file should be named index.html

This thread is really old guys, considering they havnt been on the forum in 8 months i think its pretty safe to assume they no longer need help here.
