what exactly happens when a site hosts you?

Theres all kinds of hosting...free hosting, which is like geocities and angelfire, places like that...then theres hosting on a personal domain, which is when someone who has bought a domain lets you put your site there...and theres paid hosting which is what you need if you have bought a domain name.

oh thanx, i was just wondering because someone said my site was really good, and i should get hosted!

Sometimes when people have their own domain, they have subdomains that they let other peole use. for example say someone had a domain called er...... cheekygirl.net (lol thats just an example!) then if they hosted you you would be cheekygirl.net/~whatever. people do that alot, if your site is good, you should look about and see if you can be someones hostee! Its free, there no ads and you get a good url, thats if the person your hosting with has a good url anyway. i hope this all makes sense, i have a tendencie to go on a bit........blah
