I have Windows XP, and when I download fonts I follow the directions (my computer, C drive, WINDOWS, FONTS folder). My problem is that they never get properly installed! I can't figure out why, and others say when they place fonts into their Windows XP font folder that they install for them. What am I doing wrong, and can anyone help me correct this problem so I can download fonts?

Thanks!

if you're downloading zipped fonts (the file name will end in .zip), are you unzipping them prior to putting them in the fonts folder?

Yup, they're unzipped and ready to be installed.

instead of just putting the fonts in the fonts folder (even though it should work), have you tried using the manual font installer? try opening the fonts folder, click File, and "Install New Font..."

My file menu doesn't have that feature..

File
New
Create Shortcut
Delete
Rename
Properties
Close

hmm, maybe that's a 9x only thing.

try New...what does that do? I would assume its the same thing or at least something similar

You should be able to just drag the unzipped font into your Xp fonts folder. Do you by chance have a font installing program installed? Someone mentioned before that they had one installed and it prevented the drag/drop or Install New Font features.

I have XP, when I install fonts, I download them into a folder OUTSIDE of my windows folder. Then I unzip them, right click on the .ttf file and copy it, then paste it into the c:\windows\fonts folder. I haven't ran into any problems doing it that way.

Ugh.
It's because you have to type a code in the Start>>Run.. place. I got it off of this one site.. but I forgot it. =\
