Actually, I can't see the image at all in netscape. Netscape has issues if you don't put text in table cells, or so I've found. Do you need to slice it up like that? Could you maybe just put it there as a regular image?

it's a bmp, because i need the -best- quality

Ahh never use .bmps with graphics that you're going to have on your site. No one's going to wait around that long for something to load. If you must, use a .png file. Those take a long time for people with modem connections but it's still better than .bmps

My advice is to use .jpg's and slice the image. You can increase the quality of jpgs in psp by going to options, optimize image (or something similar in the bottom right hand corner) and setting the compression thing at 0.

I dont have a recent version of netscape, so I can't answer your original question but I had to get that in, sorry hehe.

thank you but no thank you.
as you probably know, png's take even longer to load.
and even higher quality jpg's have horrible looking text.

In many instances, a GIF may be the better alternative to JPG. The JPG is usually used when it is more of a photo type image. GIF is used better when there is text or not-so photo type image.

I agree that BMP is a very long download and should be avoided. PNG is ok, but some of the alpha channel is lost in IE6.

i had tried a gif. it is my preferred file type.
but the quality just wasn't good at all.
could you please get back to the question at hand?
