Hello! I'm not quite sure where this needs to be. It's more of a question than help inquiry I guess. Here's the thing, I want to add a forum to my domain, that's easy to add themes so the member can choose his or her specified theme. My problem is, my domain's fantastico only has SMF and PHPbb2. I have no problems installing either, but my problem is with the theming, I get the themes installed, they just tend to not, you know, kinda doesn't take effect. What I tried was a test skin with a banner-like graphic I made for a theme for my blog last spring but keep because I loved it's outcome but after I edited all the files and junk, and told it to use the new one as the default, nothing changes.

In the past I've used XMB but after a few days, it plain won't let me log in anymore *even if I reset my password*

So, my longwinded question is, does anyone know of any forum software scripts that may help me....or if you're a wiz at any of the three above I mentioned, that'd be awesome. I've always wanted to use SMF, but never mastered it in the theme department

After you loaded and saved your files did you reload or refresh the page of your forum? If not do so :) Maybe that will work

SMF is really gross in my opinion. phpBB3 and MyBB are probably your best bet. Never use Fantastico to install scripts, as it is much better to manually set up the script.

I agree with iGeek, if he had never said anything, I would've said the same thing, never use Fantastico, Softaculous or any other auto scripter, always use fresh install. Knowing that you are here at Lissa Explains, you probably read her guides, and read that you should always use a theme you've made, never one that someone else made. With phpBB3, you only need to know basic CSS, same with MyBB, (Those are my favorite) but with SMF you not only need to know CSS, you also need to know PHP, so if you are ever gonna make your own themes, you gotta go with the first 2. I myself run a phpBB3 forum, and it is extremely easy to install themes, just upload to public_html>images?>styles and bam!, activate it and you've got yourself a theme, and as for not taking effect, please show me a screenshot of your styles index with all installed styles in the Admcp.

I came across FluxBB (http://fluxbb.org/) which looks very good (I haven't had time to set it up yet).

I ended up installing XMB. Whenever I make a forum, I always make my own graphics. I actually do the same for my website, as I've been a webdesigner for the past 10 years (as of this past september), this website helped me a great deal with learning to write my own html ccode and all the like.

So thanks to everyone who's helped, though I have a new inquiry. I'm trying to make a contact form for my domain, for people who'd be interested in free webhost. With as many fields as my form will have, I'm looking for an easy to follow generator. Can anyone recommend one they trust?

I would go with FREE DOMAIN REGISTRATION (http://www.sldomainregistration.com), in fact its free, service provided by them is good. Stay safe, Cheers
