Hi

I want to set up a website where users log in and visit their own unique page [to which nobody else has access, unless the user permits]. They can then update the contents of the page, save it, and return to it next time.

The structure of the page would be similar for each user, ie. a series of standard fields where they enter information [like a form really].

Can anyone tell me how to create a site like this - or is it too much for a beginner like me to take on?

I have a site with MrSite but I suspect my requirements are beyond their usual arrangements.

Any help appreciated. I've tried reading various books but can't find this kind of site structure described.

Thanks!

Way too much for a beginner to take on. You need to know PHP, MySQL (most likely), HTML and CSS. Not to mention you need PHP support and at least 2 or 3 MySQL databases.

hmm. Thanks iGeek. It's rather as I feared. What do you recommend I do? I haven't got time to learn all this, I am not loaded enough to pay someone else to set it up, but on the other hand I think the site has real potential, so I could offer a stake in it... all ideas welcome!

Start off with a search on Google for PHP. Learn all you can, make a few simple pages, then move on to MySQL. Pretty soon you will have all the knowledge you need. Then you just need a host.

thanks for advice, but realistically I can't see myself getting the time for this unless I give up my day/eve job - however would you be interested in some kind of a joint venture - or if not you, do you know another website builder who might be? Just to explore my idea's potential to start with.

I'd be happy to help out, but to be honest I know very little of PHP.
