View Full Version : What type of monitor do you have? iGeek 11-27-2006, 12:32 AM I am in the market for a new monitor and wondered what you all had. Thanks! J to the izzosh 11-27-2006, 12:59 AM Both options 1 and 3, but primarily 1. A CRT will get you generally better colour representation per dollar if you intend to do any graphical work with it. thezeppzone 11-27-2006, 01:01 AM I still have a CRT, from my old Emachines desktop. When I built my custom and sold the old one my friend didn't need a monitor, and I frankly didn't want to spend the money on a new one. I think sometime before the summer I will invest into an LCD. I'll be living at a different campus for school, and even though it is still on-campus housing, it is apartment style, so I'll be taking my desktop along with me, and have both that and my laptop. Anyways, rambling on... I would definitely just suggest getting an LCD. Prices are dropping pretty well. I'm curious as to what will be coming out next after this because of the fact that the cost is going down. Touchscreens have been getting more popular, but I still believe that those should be left for businesses and whatnot, a personal computer doesn't really need a touchscreen for daily things. Despite that, I will certainly need help when I get an LCD monitor. I have no idea what is good and the different specifications about monitors. Magln Meow 11-27-2006, 08:20 PM Well, in my opinion. LCD's are better. Not just because they look nicer but because they conserve energy, don't heat up the room, and don't hurt your eyes. I have a CRT. But for $49 dollars, I cannot complain too much. It's very noisy everytime I turn it out. BUUUZZZZZZZzzzzz!!! I used to have a LCD but my mom was cleaning it and made a mistake. To spray it with the Windex bottle. *sigh* So it had a huge black bar across the screen and it couldn't be fixed. I used to think CRT's were really low-tech and they were going to become obsolete. Guess not, since LCD's were $200-300 dollars last year so I adjusted. I named my friend's computer Curt because it was a CRT. I was bored. iTom 11-27-2006, 08:30 PM I have a 15" LCD screen on my laptop. In my opinion, LCDs last longer, use very little energy, are better for the eyes, last longer and are really quite thin (mines about 6-8mm). Anyway, I also have a huge CRT I'm currently using for my server project, but I suppose I don't need it, taking up sooo much space on my crowded desktop. LCDs don't take up half as much space as a CRT, and most tend to have a more sleek-looking frontend, and have less chance of overheating. LCD monitors are thin and takes little space, while CRT monitors are bulky and takes up space I think I'll get a 19" LCD monitor sooner rather than later. amyaurora 11-27-2006, 11:08 PM I have no idea what mine is. iGeek 11-27-2006, 11:55 PM A CRT is kinda like a TV, really deep. Here is a pic: http://park1.wakwak.com/~shiraki/pclecture/images/pc-crt.jpg This is an LCD: http://www.futura-sciences.com/img/lcd_ecran_lg.jpg I have a big 24 inch CRT in my basement, but I poured water on it (accident, don't ask) and you get shocked when you turn it on. It works though. Its really loud when it heats up! djou 11-28-2006, 04:33 AM A CRT is kinda like a TV, really deep. "Shock" as in hospital and coma worthy shock or just an "I-just-played-with-a-basketball-and-metal-gives-me-shocks" shock? iGeek 11-28-2006, 04:38 AM Hospital and coma worthy shock. Not enough to kill you, but it hurts like CRAP. I have a scar on my finger from it. Owlie42 11-28-2006, 05:08 AM Laptop...:buckt: so I suppose it's LCDish... tokyo bleu 11-28-2006, 07:25 AM My deskop PC monitor is a CRT... unfortunately, lol. I'm still waiting for Vista to be released until I finally invest in a new desktop system. Thankfully, I do have my beautiful Sony VAIO laptop with me. amyaurora 11-28-2006, 06:53 PM A CRT is kinda like a TV, really deep. In fact all that I have access to are CRTs. onigiri 11-28-2006, 07:45 PM All of my monitors are LCDs (desktop + two laptops). |
