View Full Version : Guest readers
umsldragon 11-01-2006, 07:50 PM I couldn't help but notice that when I went to the bottom of the page to see who was on, I noticed six users and 50-some-odd guests. Either you guys are users and not signed in, or actual guests searching the site.
I invite you to join the community and be active in our chats. You are most welcome. So, don't be :chicken: and come and join

bourdelson 11-01-2006, 07:53 PM A lot of the "guest readers" are search engine spiders\\crawlers grabbing content.
Take a look: http://www.lissaexplains.com/forum/online.php

SUPER RP06 11-01-2006, 09:40 PM Maybe we need to find the way to prevent search engine "spiders/bots" from accessing the forum or create something like this for example:
Online: 25 members, 15 guests, and 300 search engine bots
Douglas 11-01-2006, 10:00 PM There aren't 300 search engine bots looking around, just copies of the same search bot :P
iGeek 11-02-2006, 12:02 AM And if we blocked them all the forum wouldn't come up on Google or other search engines.
umsldragon 11-02-2006, 04:09 PM Yes, but even those that are just searching may just happen to look at a 'community' thread and find it interesting. When I looked at the like, a Yahoo Slup Spidder was looking at a "HI, I'm new" thread, so ya never know...
Marta 11-02-2006, 05:44 PM Maybe we should get all the slurp spiders & bots to join!!!! :lolol:

The problem with that statement is that the spiders aren't actual people. A spider is a program, so I highly doubt they found it interesting. They're just following links.

Lissa 11-08-2006, 04:17 PM If all of the copies of search engine spiders joined, I think there would be a good million users on here :lolol:
Arwen 11-08-2006, 04:19 PM How do you know I'm not a mod spider?
