ok i just got this new usb of ebay and when it came it didn’t have any original seal. it was a 4gb usb but im scared that i might have gotten something less, how can i check? it doesn’t have anything written on the thing its self, this kind doesn’t. and when i go to properties of it it says like 3.99 gb or what ever but when i put my info on it it only had room for about 1.3gb? what’s the deal am i getting ripped of?

and by the way now its not letting me take some files of it , it keeps saying that the files cant be removed because the directory is not empty

First of this sorta belongs in the General section, but hey, I'll help you out.

There are several surefire ways of testing wether you got ripped off.

First, price. I paid £10 ($14-18) for my little 128mb usb stick. If you paid any less than £10, you haven't got a 4GB. If you paid any less than $100, you probably haven't got a 4GB.
I'd also like to add, when they say 4GB, there is usually a small margin of disk error. Usually, you'll be missing about 10mb. Which isn't a big deal. My stick only has a capacity of 123mb, but, of course, nobody is perfect.
If you got ripped off, you can always contact eBay and tell them of your fraudulent sale.Hope this helps. :)

PS: The answer to your problem probably resides in a tiny switch on the side of the stick, called LOCK, this means that the files cannot be deleted, renamed or anything else, but they can be read. Change the switches position and it should work. :)

You better check the tiny switch on your USB drive, xCandy!

O.O Tiny switch? no mine doesn’t have that and i can take stuff of and on it but not these particular items . . . . the exact message it gives me when i try to delete is " cannot remove folder: the directory is not empty"
any ideas on what "directory is not empty " means?

by the way the fact that it says its like 3.9 gb in its properties should i put to rest thee idea of me being ripped off? and if so then why dose it only let me put 1.3gb as the max amount of storage?

Plug it in, go to My COmputer, than right-click on the drive and select Format. Make sure you have no importanmt files on it; they will be erased!! Then go ahead with the process. Make sure the file system is NTFS.

Dont use NTFS. NTFS is too, umm, Useless, yes.

If you use NTFS dont expect to be able to plug into a mac or a linux box. If you are ever expecting to go to another computer, format it as FAT32.

The only difference between FAT32 and NTFS that you will be concerned with anyway) are security and size. You are going to use a little more space with FAT32, and FAT32 is a little less secure. Lets be honest though. NTFS doesnt work on every computer, whereas FAT32 almost exclusively does. And, its a USB stick, if your thinking of getting security, you should throw it away, cause it just aint gonna happen
