View Full Version : More Info on coding layouts, hosting, etc.
Mantber 09-08-2006, 09:10 PM Hey everybody, Lissa Explains lurker here - I've been visiting tihis site for about a year now. I was wondering, I want to start up a fansite and I know LEIA has info on layout making and coding but I was wondering does anyone know any other websites? To me it seems like LEIA just talks about the basics. I am still kind of confused on how to make a layout and I have re-read and re-read lol Like for example I want to make layouts like httpo://iheartjake.com or http://foreverbeyonce.com also does anyone know maybe tutorials that talk about hosting and suchs I am alittle lost in that department also. If anyone could shed some light on t his, seriously I would appreciate it *alot* :)
Miss_Thang 09-08-2006, 09:26 PM To make layouts you'll need a graphics program like PSP or PS. You can also try Gimp, it's a freeware and I hear it's pretty good. To make layouts like FB.com and IHJ.com , honestly all I can say is practice your skills and from there you'll advance more and can create layouts such as what you like ;)
As for hosting, if your having a fansite there are PLENTY of free and paid fansite hostings out there! Like fan-sites.org, fanlounge.org *, soelite.com * , celebfanatics.net *, etc. You can do a google search for tutorials and they'll point you to a lot of links ;)

Thank you for such a quick respopnse! Yeah I have adobe photoshop already and I've been making graphics for awhile the only problem that I am really confused about is that ```` coding lol and yeah the hosting I just found a really good site called http://surpasshosting.com :)
J to the izzosh 09-08-2006, 10:08 PM You don't need a graphics program to make a layout. Creating one large image and slicing it into tables or positioning elements over it as a background is one of the most inefficient methods for laying out your content. Most of the boxes and borders, etc. can be created using pure CSS and HTML, reducing the loading time for your page. It is also a good habit to code by hand so you know what you're doing as opposed to using automatic "slicing" programs.
Try walking through the hands on tutorial here first, then move on to the complete CSS guide and quick tutorials: http://www.westciv.com/style_master/house/tutorials/index.html.

Oh thank you for the link, IU will be looking into it right now. By the way I dunno if that is your real name but my name is Josh too :)
J to the izzosh 09-15-2006, 11:27 PM You're welcome. And yes, it is. Small world, eh? Though, not that surprising, I suppose, if you consider that, according to the US Government's Social Security Online, "Joshua" hasn't gone below the rank of five in popular baby names since the year I was born. I guess everybody just wants to be like me, haha.
