Can I tell them about my hosting site if someone asks "Where can I get free hosting"?

I think you can since you would be helping them out...You would be answering a question (your hosting is great by the way! :D )

I didn't know you have hosting from me. Thanks for joining and the compliment.

Advertising in my forum?! I'm joking! I think you can cos you don't say 'Come on, visit my great site! It's so GREAT! etc' :lolo:

Also, I wonder if I can link my tutorial (on my site) if someone asks for it? :confusion

Any linking to your site is advertising.. it has always been that way ;) Harmor - yours is ONLY free hosting if you are a member of your forum, that definitely constitutes advertising. :)

But don't people advertise lifelesspeople.com, and other sites related to that? It seems like the same thing to me...it just happens to belong to him.

It's been the same since the dawn of time  A person isn't actively looking for threads to post about lifelesspeople.com, they're just helping. A person promotes their own site not necessarily to help, but to increase traffic to their site, and that isn't allowed here, or else it would be a mess ;) There are some forums that don't allow links at all

<edit>You avatar is gorgeous, by the way :) I didn't get it until I read your signature!

I did  Posting a link to your site isn't allowed, no matter who it is ;) If someone else feels that your tutorial is so helpful that it needs to be linked to for answers, then it's fine!

What if I am trying to help? I hate to see these very limited hosting sites succeed while mine, having unlimited databases, subdomains, ftp accounts, email account, etc. along with cPanel and Fantastico are overshadowed by hosts like Bravenet.

As long as they are active in your forum :P There are plenty of sites like that. :) That's like me saying "Well, I'd hate for about.com's HTML Help to overshadow mine" It happens, but I can bet you that Bravenet didn't try to test forum rules to advertise, they went out and found other ways.

No. My rule is that if they get 5 posts they can get hosting. They do not have to come back to my site at all, unless they want to.
I don't tie people down where they have to post X times per week.

It's advertising, I've given numerous reasons why it is indeed that way ;)

Bravenet started when the internet was young so there weren't a lot of competition. Nowadays the competition is tougher.

No excuses; everyone has rules! Closing, I can see this being a circular argument :P

Shanti - sorry I didn't see your question! I just mean that I've always had a rule against advertising, not literally since the dawn of time  If anyone has a question, feel free to PM me :)
