Just thought I would share and show off the laptop that I'm going to be getting, because it makes me happy, and I'm a computer person. I also never thought I would actually get a laptop for college, but I ended up deciding there was nothing else that would be practical for me. It's the graduation present from my parents. I will be paying part of it, because it is a little expensive for the event, but that comes later. It will also help me so I don't have to lug my custom tower back and forth when there are breaks, and if I come home for a weekend I won't have to worry about leaving it there. So anyways:

I'm going to be a stereotypical college student and get a Dell, heh. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Dell. I've never had one myself, but my sister has one, and she now uses it as she travels on business, that's her job. I really have always believed anyone that has a problem with their Dell, well, it was their fault. It's rare to have an issue with one of their products, in my opinion. So my brother-in-law works for a company that gets a discount with Dell, so I'm going to use that. It's like between 3-5%, depending on what you get. Well, I had one sort of decided on, but the other day he sends me this coupon code that is for 35% off, on top of the 5% before! It is for $999 purchase or more, but what I was looking at was going to be about $850 anyways. So I changed some stuff, it was $994. I added a laptop bag for $33, a necessity that I would need to get, but didn't think about at first. So here we go:

Dell Inspiron E1405
14.1 Inch Widescreen TFT with Truelife Anti-Glare
5.3 Lbs
1.6 GHz Intel DUO Core Processor
1 GB Ram
60 GB Hard Drive
8x CD/DVD Burner

1 Firewire port
4 USB ports
Ethernet & Modem ports
Video & S-Video ports
5-in-1 Memory card reader
802.11g/b wireless card
Media push buttons on the front

Oh and I think I'm gonna take my bluetooth keyboard / laser mouse with me so I have a mouse and a comfortable keyboard. They're wireless, obviously, bluetooth, and it won't be a hassle, so I might take them incase I ever decide to use them instead of just the laptop, or for games or whatever. The thing is, the keyboard already has media control on it, touch sensative, so I am getting like a nice bargain :)

So it's like a $1200 laptop that I'll be getting for $765+$50 tax, I won't complain one bit. I'm paying about half, which isn't bad; the money will come from my grad gift money anyways. It's really shiny too :) Jealous yet? I have nothing else to say... Oh my desktop is nice too but it would take a rediculously long time to post all of the specs for this... :)

Sounds good. :)

I have a Gateway laptop-- it was my graduation present, instead of having an open house [those things are too much of a hassle, anyway and I didn't want to deal with it].

I just wish that I had 1GB ram... haha.

I'm thinking of getting a laptop for Christmas (or if I have enough, go to buy one)

I'm thinking of a Dell.

My wishlist:

Laptop with 1 GB (or 2 GB) of RAM, 80 GB (or more) of Hard disk space, Intel DUO core processor, Genuine Windows XP Home Edition (or Professional) SP2

Congrats on getting a new laptop, that's a great price! Dell's batteries might burst into flames, but they supposedly have the best customer service for computers.. just expect to be on the phone with them a lot  I'm hating my Gateway laptop right now, the charger won't connect to my computer unless I have a magazine putting pressure under it.. blah, yeah, laptops stink :hehe: Good luck with yours!!

My laptop is Toshiba, which is good except the fact that the battery is kinda old and lasts less than an hour, which sucks because then whenever I use it I have to find an outlet to plug it into...

14.1 Inch Widescreen
You're going to watch movies or do a lot graphics?
Because I got a laptop as a graduation present from school and would have preferred it to have smaller screen and therefore weigh less. Of course weight isn't that important if you almost never have to carry it, but I'm suspecting that's exactly what I'm going to do.

My laptop has a 14.1 inch widescreen, and it's still pretty lightweight and small. [I also like it because I do a lot of graphic stuff, hehe. ]It's not hard to carry at all. [I have a backpack for mine. :D ] I know a couple of people who have 17 inch screens, and that looks huge in comparison. 14.1 inches is a pretty reasonable size, in my opinion. Not too big, not too small. :)

It probably isn't all about size. Mine is pretty cheap and that means it can't be the best. But for a while a laptop ca 3 kg and 75 minutes battery is better than no laptop at all.

Nice. It's similar to mine, really, except I got the larger screen, so I think it's an Inspiron 810 or something like that. I would have gotten a mac book, but my parents ordered it for me. Congrats!

Yeah, I wanted the smaller screen, 14 inch, makes for a smaller laptop and easier to carry around - but still having performance. Some things did change because of the discount I'm getting and Dell changed some stuff today;

80GB HD instead of 60GB
1.83GHz Processor, still the DUO Core, instead of 1.6GHz
And I'm getting their small nylon bag

Yay for performance :) So we ordered it earlier, the ship estimate was a week from now. It has free 3-5 day shipping, so I'm not sure if that means it will be here in a week, or it is being shipped out in a week, and it will be another 3-5 days after that. I've never had a problem with Dell before, so I know I have a wait but it won't be too horrid. I have all my program install files and such ready to be installed too, I'm such a nerd lol
