OK, I uploaded the ZIP file to my ftp (it's web ftp for dreamhost) and I feel so dumb...what do I put for my database username and password? Do I use my FTP info for it?? Ugh...I've been having a SLOW summer...so if I sound dumb (which I am sure I do), excuse it...

You shouldn't upload the .zip file, you should upload all the files from the .zip file. You might want to check this (http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress) out. :)

But all the files uploaded with it and the zip file was no longer a zip file...it was a subdirectory...this is beginning to really bug me...

I don't understand. :confused: Can you explain where exactly are you stuck? You donwloaded the .zip file from Wordpress to your computer, then you opened the .zip file and extracted the files into a map or something like that, then opened your FTP program and uploaded the files to your host... am I right?

Ok, I figured out one of the problems...but it says that the database name is wrong...I know it isn't...
