Mmkayy so i've been looking for a cheap domain selling website, and I've heard godaddy is good.
It was all going well, until i got to here...
"Your registrant name (i.e. ), phone number, postal and email address -- are listed in the public WHOIS directory. Your personal information is available to anyone, anytime - exposing you to an untold number of potential problems - and yes, it can happen to YOU."
which seems abit sketchy, but it also has "Deluxe Registration" (which claims to hide your address, email etcetc.[private WHOIS listing]) at the same price.
I'm just wondering to whoever has used Godaddy before, which option did you go for? I mean, if there the same price for a deluxe registration [private WHOIS] and a standard registration [public WHOIS] ..isnt that abit..strange?
idk
sorry if i sound confusing

I didn't hide my information from public. Well, how many people will enter your domain on WHOIS and look who you are? Not so many I guess... :)

The private registration is an additional $8.95/year. They can trick people into that.
It just depends how you are. Most people who own personal websites don't bother going private. There might be people out there that worry about their information being public, but it isn't a big deal to have it. It's just one of those things we have to live with. Most businesses keep their information private, however.
There is a lot more open information available on the internet than we have to put in when registering a domain. I think most cities are required to have it, but: Tax information. I knew about it, but my best friends dad found it yesterday when he went to pay his utility bills. On the website you can view anybody's utility bills, amounts, original house information, tax information, it's kind of creepy, but it's just the way it is.

in europe there is a company called nominet that deals with domain registrations etc. once you buy a domain name all your info will be stored with them. you then have the option to opt out of WHOIS. if you are a business you cannot opt out but if your website is personal you can.
i didnt get charged extra to opt out.
this is what it is like in the UK and the rest of europe (i think), im not sure about anywhere else, but you might want to look into it further.
>> i dont think your should pay extra to opt out, so you may want to look for another domain registrant
