Hi guys,

I've been having loads of problems creating a website with an online editor so I've decided to go back to basics using Simpletext. Trouble is nothing seems to work the way it should. Can anyone give some idea where I've gone wrong?

I've typed in my basic tags; html, head, title and body tags plus a few words to test it, I've saved it as index.html in a special folder on my desktop. So far so good. But when I double click on it the html lesson here says that I should be taken to a page that looks exactly like it would do on the net, but all I get it the precise document I originally created, eg just tags :(

What should I do? Help!!! this is starting to really frustrate me, there's got to be answer, I can't have the only Mac in the world that can't make webpages, lol.

Mm. Could you have been typing the code in the wrong area? E.g. the design area or something? Is there a code area or section where you can put in your code?

you could possibly saving it as...
name.html.txt
in error.
try saving your document as...
"name.html"
with quotes around it like that then try the double click thing.

I had another look in case I had been typing in the wrong area but there's only one place that seems to be available, so no joy there :(

I've had a go with the quotes thing and that's had no effect either :(

If the previewing thing does only work for Notepad, does anyone know how I could have a peek to check what I've done?

as far as i know if it's saved as something.html (something to your own name) you should always be able to preview it in your browser by just simply double click on the file you saved.

i think simpletext may not be able to create an html document right off. doing a google search i found this...

Looks like Simpletext doesn't do html after all, thanks so much for that link pb&j. Does anyone know what I should be using instead? I had exactly the same problems with bbedit :(
