What do you mean by "transparent text"? Do you have an example of what you want to do?

Do you actually mean transparent or do you really mean semi-transparent? If the latter is what you want, just write your text in white and lower the opacity of the text.

Depends what software you use, and I think you mean blended text.

As onigirl said, you can reduce the opacity of the text layer, alternatively, your software may have some other form of blending.

For example I use the GIMP, I set the layer mode to "Overlay" and duplicate it until I'm happy with the outcome.
