I heard on the news about the Middle East Crisis this week.

I checked CNN and CBC News for the latest on the situation.

This was from the CNN.com main page (updated at 2:23 pm today)

Lebanon now a 'disaster zone'
• Attacks destroying Lebanon, prime minister says
• Israel attacks Lebanese ports, border near Syria
• Beirut hit again, Hezbollah HQ targeted
• Barrages of rockets fired into northern Israel
• President Bush urges Syria to rein in Hezbollah

It's sure not good news. This of course means that gas prices will soar because most of our gas income is in the middle east. But don't think this will be WW3. There have been wars in the middle east between Israel and other countries for thousands of years. For them, it's a holy war. But it has never caused a world war.

However, I do think Israel could do one more thing to help end this war. They should tell any people in Beruit that are not hezbollah members to evacuate because they will destory the entire city.

That may sound hasty, but the Lebanon govermant is not doing anything about Hezbollah. In my eyes, somebody has to take them out, and if the Lebanonean goverment isn't, I think Israel should.

But, most importantly, I think we should not worry, God says be anxious for nothing. We just have to see what His plan is.

God bless

Since last week our gas prices jumped nearly 20 cents in Canada ($1.10 a liter)

And, yes, Hezbollah needs to bve dealt with and i guess this is one way of doing it...not what i had in mind though.

Lebanon doesn't have a government (an effective one, anyway.) If it were to go after Hezbollah, it'd likely cause a civil war. It's not a good position to be in.

Oh, yeah, you know, that does make it a lot more complicated. Do you think we (the US) should intervien? Then again, that might make all of our anti-Iraq activists even more outraged. Man, this is really just a bad situation to be in for the whole word.

Escape from Beirut
Hundreds of Westerners have piled on cruise ships to flee war-torn Lebanon, but tens of thousands remain stranded in Beirut. The United States sent military helicopters to airlift the neediest people from its embassy today, and a cruise ship is set to collect more Americans who want to leave.

Do you mean diplomatically or militarily? We can't intervene diplomatically (not in any effective way, anyway) because we'd have to deal with Syria, which the State Department has already refused to do. So we can hop up and down and wave our arms of State and tell them to knock it off, but nothing more than. Militarily, we can't because we can't afford it. Most of the army is tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan. The UN isn't much help because it wasn't designed to be of any help.

As for pulling US citizens out of Lebanon, it's been very slow to respond compared to countries like France and Britain. I think it's been trying to sit back and see where this is going before taking any action.

I don't think the US should get invovled any other way than by diplomacy. Isreal is wayyy more than capable to defend itself.

Not that we're not involved anyway, considering that we give Israel $3 billion a year, which is why it's way more than capable of defending itself.

The only realistic reason U.S. would have to consider getting involved is if Iran does. Israel can handle the other hostile states of the Middle East with their own firepower I think.
