View Full Version : how do i get my website on my domain!? Sue 07-14-2003, 01:27 AM ok so i have my own domain but theres like no html editor so how do i get what ive made on the site? Cherchezlafemme 07-14-2003, 01:40 AM Why don't you try an FTP program to upload stuff to your domain? Sue 07-14-2003, 01:43 AM whats a good ftp program? Cherchezlafemme 07-14-2003, 01:49 AM Well windows has it's own program called WS_FTP you'll have to search google for that one I really like Smart ftp as well it's a really good program! www.smartftp.com They're all freware so enjoy ;) Dude128 07-14-2003, 02:53 AM the only connection to Windows that WS_FTP has is that it runs on Windows- it's not "Windows' own FTP program" or anything like that. backing up a bit: did you purchase hosting, or just a domain? if you only got the domain, you'll need to get hosting, too. [/B] whats the difference? Geekette 07-14-2003, 08:31 PM When you buy a domain, you're just paying for the name. You have to have a host to actually store the site on. When you pay for a host you are paying for the web space, the bandwidth, and such. Sue 07-14-2003, 08:35 PM Originally posted by Geekette When you buy a domain, you're just paying for the name. Using an FTP program is faster and more efficient, though. Sue 07-14-2003, 08:40 PM theres no control pannel thing though! Geekette 07-14-2003, 08:42 PM That's very odd, which host are you using? Sue 07-14-2003, 08:47 PM register.com Dude128 07-14-2003, 08:56 PM are you sure you bought hosting, too? I think register.com primarily deals with domain registration- it looks like their hosting is done through another company. it's possible they just give you a page or two on the domain while it's just parked there. what may help figure this out: how much did you pay? and is it monthly or yearly? Geekette 07-14-2003, 08:59 PM We do not currently offer Web site hosting. If you have hosting, then you definitely didn't get it from them. Sue 07-14-2003, 09:15 PM i payed 130 yearly for register.com and i also used this website now thing that might be my host and i payed 30 for it yearly. |
