I downloaded Windows Live Messenger Beta to try how it works and it worked fine, BUT I didn't like its graphics and colors SO I decided to remove it and download the older version of MSN - MSN Messenger 7.5 Everything was great until I noticed that the sounds like Nudge, New Email Message etc didn't play! I contacted MSN Messenger Help Center and they told me some steps, BUT they weren't very clear, SO I improved them a little bit and added more categories. Here's how to make your sounds play:
- Go to My Computer >> C: Drive >> Windows >> Regedit and double-click it.
- Double-click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> AppEvents >> Schemes >> Apps >> MSNMSGR.
- This folder should be empty. Now right-click on MSNMSGR and choose New >> Key. A new sub-folder will appear. Name it MSNMSGR_Buzz. Repeat this step until you have all of the following sub-folders:
MSNMSGR_ContactOnline
MSNMSGR_NewAlert
MSNMSGR_NewMail
MSNMSGR_NewMessage
MSNMSGR_NewSMSMessage
MSNMSGR_PhoneRing
MSNMSGR_VoiceIMFinished
- Close your Regedit file when you're done.
- Now open your MSN Messenger and go to Tools >> Options >> Alerts and Sounds >> click on the Sounds button.
- Select Sounds and scroll down to MSN Messenger. You can now see all of the sounds:
Contact Online
New Alert
New Mail
etc.
- Select one of them and click on Browse. You can now add the sounds to your Messenger! Your MSN Messenger sounds are located at C: >> Program Files >> MSN Messenger.
Well, MSN Messenger Help Center helped me a lot, BUT I improved the steps and added more options and I thought this tutorial would be helpful since many forum members downloaded Windows Live Messenger from this (http://www.lissaexplains.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56055) thread. But if Lissa thinks this should be removed, just remove it. :)
