Okay.. Im starting to think it's the fact that I have Windows 98 the reason why this isnt working, I know the server supports .htaccess and everything I just cant NAME the file .htaccess....... everytime i do...... it calls it .htaccess.txt..... then I take out the .txt with my FTP proram or even in the file folders, and it says I need to enter a filename..... it's so annoying.... someone please tell me if there is a way to avoid this, I AM using notepad too.....

when you save it in Notepad try enclosing the file name with quotes, and make sure that All Files is selected, not Text files. so you would enter ".htaccess"
I use Windows 98, and I can save as .htaccess just fine, even without the quotes

Is it possible to make .htaccess files to put up the 404 in any indexes you dont want people to access? 0-o; Uhmm I mean like http://www.bpextreme.com/al/ZZAnimatedPiccus/ to be replaced by my 404 page? I know I can protect this by uploading a file called index.html into every folder, but I wondered if I could my 404 to work there, since I would like that a lot better....
