It's come to our (the homeschooler's) attention that there are a number of us around the board. So, if you're a homeschooler, post in this thread! If you're not, and want to ask us questions, feel free! :D We'll try to answer them as best we can. :)

Woot! I'm a homeschooler! And a total geek ;)

Tokyo...I think many homeschoolers focus a LOT on achedemics, and spend more time studying than the average student...

Not entirely sure why, though ;)

Everytime I catch wind of some competition and always think one of our rival private schools won, it's always a homeschooler! =P

Power to the beholder though. ;)

Yay! Go homeschoolers. I'm nerdy but I know plenty of people who are far beyond my skills.

I finished writing ten whole pages of a fictional story account in under two weeks and was sick during the time. I spat in the shoes of writer's block. Not too mention I proofread it thirty times. No exaggeration.

^ :lolol: That's great, Magln.

I've slacked a bit lately in my school work, but that's because I'm almost done! :D (*sniff* I'm gonna miss homeschooling) I'm not uber nerdy...although for some insane reason I decided to take all of my hardest subjects in the same year.

What's everyone's favorite school subject? I'd have to say that mine was/is probably music theory or art history.

Currently Language Arts is my favorite subject. :P I must say it is very difficult for me to choose only one. I love computer science/A.I. and science. Math is probably my third choice. Social studies can be fun I use ePALS. Anybody else do that? You can talk to other students all around the world. I talked to a girl in Japan and an 18 year old in the UK. :D And... let's see, I've always been bad at history but currently I found a good history book and some interesting projects to do with it. Heh, it can be fun. I feel apologetic to students in a hundred years time from now. They have to read a lot more history. Who know what will happen.

I read a lot. All levels, as long as it is interesting. Otherwise I fall asleep. :P Did that before. Writing/poetry is amazing. I'll never stop writing. :) Vocabulary bleh. My mom makes me look up too many words! Yea, there's more stuff, but that's all I can think of right now.

Aw! Ditto! I just realized that a class I'm having with a favorite teacher of mine (my parents pay for outside, or "enrichment" classes) whom I've had for 3 years will be over next week. I'm going to get flowers and a card for her ;)

Yes, I will miss homeschooling too. I will be going to a public high school for 9th grade. That will be this year! Yikes! At least I will get the credits. The school I will be going to is very nice but humungous! :scared: I'm going to get lost or something. I turned anti-social too. I don't many friends and one of them moved away. :( No brothers/sisters and that makes me even more shy. lol, so many people! I don't know how I'm going to survive!

My favorite subjects are Reading, Writing, Spelling, and P.E.! I love running around and stuff, so P.E. is my mostest favoritest! :D

Magln - I'm sure it'll go great!!

My parents were thinking of sending me to a public school when I was getting into the highschool years, but decided against it for various reasons - and I'm glad! I'm sure public school would be neat, but I think I've have SO much more of an oppurtunity to develop other skills in the extra time I have...i.e. public speaking, drama, singing, and - of course- web page designing! I don't think I would have begun my own business and taught classes if I had the work load of a public school.

My favorite subject is computers :stickout: Yes, I get to count that as a credit on my transcript...

I know what that's like... My piano teacher's been working with me on flute/piano for the last 5 years. :( My last recital is coming up in May.

My favorite subject is computers :stickout: Yes, I get to count that as a credit on my transcript...

I counted "Computer skills" and "typing" on my transcript. But I really did learn a ton about computers and I can type at 90-120 wpm... So I guess I should be able to count it. ;)

I guess the thing I love most about homeschooling is all the free time. You can get up and finish your school pretty quickly if you want to, and then you've got free time to pursue hobbies. :) I don't think I'd be anywhere near as good at piano if I weren't homeschooled. :D

I've taken anything from Art History and Music Theory to English Lit and creative writing, physics and chemistry, pre-calc, analogies, logic...etc...etc...etc... It's fun being able to pick your subjects... :buckt:

Here I am!!!! I don't want to miss out on our very own thread! ;)
Let's see, I'm in 10th grade, and have been homeschooled every year except for 2nd grade when I went to school in Norway. Though I'm not sure if I'm a geeky homeschooler
I like piano and math. I've been playing for about 8 years, so I'm getting good now :D Yeah, homeschooling probably has allowed me to get better than I would of otherwise....more time/freedom of when to practice.
I'm counting computers too, and all kinds of life skill stuff that public school kids wouldn't get to count. 90-120 wpm???? wow that's fast...I type like half that speed, I think.
I hope all of you that are starting college next year won't miss homeschooling too much  (and that you'll still have time for LEIA) I'll probably do some online pseo next year.
There sure are a lot of us though, not just here but everywhere....I went to homeschooling conference last weekend and there were about 6000 people there (parents and some kids)... Well, I think this post should get posted soon...but....What else should we discuss?

Man, I wish that I'd done homeschooling... I was never particularlary fond of school; too much time wasted by the administration and inefficient curricula. My attitude through school was basically, "Oh em gee! Can we stop playing with the coloured tiles and actually try to learn something useful, please?" Consequently, my absenteeism was deplorable. That being said, not attending school and doing homework regularly is easliy two of the stupidest things that I've ever done. Stay in school, sucka-fools! (No, I didn't quit. That would just be dumb.)

Marta
04-26-2006, 04:54 AM
that's too bad :( I'm sorry.. You must have gotten to do a little more than playing with coloured tiles though...
Anyways I think homeschooling is really growing, especially since there is so many curriculums especially for homeschoolers now...that didn't exist just 20 or so or less years ago.

Yeah, we had coloured blocks, too. :D

Seriously, though, there was of course more to my education than toys. I'm just whiny and a big fan of hyperbole. :)

how do u make friends?

dolce shanti
05-02-2006, 02:35 AM
We don't. We're shut up in closets, with nothing to do but post on LEIA. LEIA and learning big words is our life.

:stickout: just kidding. I take a lot of extracurricular classes and activities, so I have many friends who take numerous classes with me, and whom I've known for years. I also take drama and stuff like that...I even got invited to a homecoming at a "real school" :stickout: Anyways, that's how I make a lot of friends... I'm a pretty outgoing person, and so I meet people at all other sorts of random places as well :)

I have a ton of friends :D

I've got my internet friends...only because my mother has kept me locked in my room for the last 10 years of my life... :crying:

I've got TONS of friends from all over the US and Canada, plus tons around here. I've got friends who homeschool and then I've got friends who are public/private schoolers. *shrugs* Making friends has never been that big of a deal for me. :)

I know lots of people as well. I'm involved at church (youth group, sunday school, etc.) and I'm in 4-H. I've also been in different bands and an orchestra. There are lots of ways to meet people other than going to public school....I'm sure everyone has a friend that they didn't meet at their school.
I also have met many other homeschoolers through a homeschool group and homeschool classes (and leia  )

I knew a few kids that were homeschooled growing up.. some chose to do outside activities like dance (2 girls I knew at dance were homeschooled) and volunteer work and stuff, but some just kinda stayed in the house and played video games :confusion I wanted to be homeschooled when I was younger, because I wasn't really learning anything in elementary school, it was all too easy!

Do you (as homeschoolers) feel like you've learned a lot more being taught at home?

AiJahya
05-18-2006, 09:06 PM
Do you (as homeschoolers) feel like you've learned a lot more being taught at home?

I know I've taken some courses that are as difficult as some freshman college courses. So...I'd say that I personally feel that I've learned a lot more at home than I would at public schools. It depends on the family, though. I know some families that are very lenient and I actually feel sorry for the kids. :( But there are a lot more families out there that are much tougher on school work than public/private schools are.

Overall, I feel pretty well prepared for college even though I've never set foot inside of a class room. :)

Do you (as homeschoolers) feel like you've learned a lot more being taught at home?

Well, I recently took a spanish class at a community college, while also taking a spanish class in high school. I actually found the college spanish class easier than my high school class! We went through all the information much more slowly. So in some ways, yes, I do think I've learned a bit more being taught at home...
