Does anyone know what version MySQL that lycos.co.uk uses? I signed up for their free account and put up a phpbb forum but on the install part it asks what version your database is and I looked all over the site and even posted in the forum with no response. Does it matter which one I chose even? Thanks!

if you just downloaded phpbb then you probably got their newest version which is 2.05 and it uses mysql 3.2

the version of phpBB and the version of MySQL aren't related. the version of MySQL is what the host has installed- phpBB supports several different versions.

although I don't know what version lycos.co.uk has installed, I can answer another of your questions: yes, it does make a difference. I believe there is a difference in the code necessary to interact with the database.

if you can't find an answer, why not install it using one choice (keeping in mind that free hosts are probably less likely to go through the trouble of installing newer software, so chances are it's an older version), and test it? if it doesn't work, the worst case scenario is you delete it and reinstall with the other option selected.

I wouldn't recommend installing PHPBB2 on Lycos, there are so many bugs that need fixing. Instead, try using Invision:

HTH,

if you install it right it will work. it has to be on lycos.co.uk not lycos.com

invision board cost money, so i think phpbb would be preferred.
