A so called mate of mine had taken some of my css from an old layout that I had, so I asked him if he could take it down as I had made it and I did not want anyone to use it, I would not have minded if he asked but he just took it.

Anyway I asked him to take it down and this is his respones was.

Hi Kier,

Me and the rest of the team that build the website have looked in to our css and we have not found the line that u say is there, but we have found it on the bit that CJB put on to the website. So it doesn't have anything to do with me or anyone else that writes the website script at all, but we will still continue to look thourgh our scripts to see if we can find any other place where it might be, but so fare we have had no luck on finding it.

If you have any other problems with the CSS please just let me know and i will look into them as soon as i can.

My mum and his mum are friends, and my mum went round to ask his mum something they where doing. And she had a print out of the email that I sent. And she said that I was not helping him and that he has got enough pressure as it is (gcse and all that, and I'm doing them as well, and if anything I'm under more pressure as I've got a disabled brother and he takes a lot of my spare time up). Anyway I've emailed his host to ask if they do put the css in peoples sites (Thats what he said they do), and I'm waiting for a reply, but if they did put it then I would have it as well right? Well I dont.

Do you think that I was right to contact his host about this or not? I know its abit late to stop it but I was wondering if I did have a case.

(by the way I am only showing that link in there so you are see for yourself, and I do have proof that he took it as well.)

Well I don't believe in copyrighting HTML (or CSS), but if he is your friend, he could at least ask before taking the code you made!
And I'd contact his host as well.

Wow thats no fun.. I would be very upset if someone took something of mine that I created without permission

He can get in trouble for that because you are always suppose to ask for permission if it isnt copyrighted for everyone just to take. He can get in BIG trouble for that!

I think you have them mixed^. If it is copywritten then they can't take it without permission from the owner. If it isn't copywritten, anybody can use and/or reproduce ones original work in any way, shape, or form without their consent. It's just plain rude to do that, make your own site. However, it happens, and there isn't much we can do about it.

I always thought that if you made it then it is copyrighted, might be wrong though, its still not morally correct though is it?

I've said that he can take it, but it proves to me that he cant do it himself.

If we're talking about one single class then I don't see what the big deal is.

If it were a complete layout then I would freak out too.

Same here. Generic CSS isn't anything to care enough about. Though if you've written up some fancy-shmancy, out-of-this-world CSS coding, then you should take a screenshot of your code and his... highlight what he stole.
