View Full Version : So What Is The Deal With the Ads
SSPrincess 03-18-2006, 07:41 PM What's up with the Google Ads being right before the last post? I searched and didn't see anyone else saying anything, so if somebody did, I apologize.
Either way, the Ads being in the threads is sort of bothering me. Is this some sort of glitch or something? Am I the only one who's getting them or...?

They're only there if you're not logged in :confusion Ask anyone who has a forum, it is VERRRY expensive ;)
Cherchezlafemme 03-18-2006, 07:44 PM It's new with the update. I never got them when I had the moderator status, so that's probably why it's new to you. I believe google adverts give you like x amount of money for each ad clicked, every little bit counts so it makes to have them :D
edit: lissa i never got them when I was a mdoerator, maybe it does weird stuff because of the status transition?
Katja 03-18-2006, 07:45 PM No, you're not alone. I've got them too. I agree, the ads in the threads are annoying. It's probably just 'cause this site costs so much to run, that Lissa needs the extra help. We won't know until she tells us, though.
EDIT: Oh, dear, it seems I was beaten.
They're only there if you're not logged in
I'm logged in right now, and I've still got them.

Ohhhhh, I guess I have to fix them after the upgrade *hits self on head* Sorry that you find ads annoying, but it costs money each time a guest visits a page, and there are a lot of guests :) It'll be fixed soon, I forgot my computer at home so I am on someone else's for the time being, I'll be home soon though (my spring break is over tomorrow!)

Lissa already posted an answer lol...
I see no ads except the one at the very top, so it must be like she said, only if you're not logged in... or if you are, your cookies must be messed up. I don't see it as a bad idea at all, look at all this site gives us, and the other 50,000 members, letalone those who come here that aren't registered. I can't even imagine the bill she gets, despite it all gets paid for through advertising. And yes Lissa, I know you can't announce that information because of agreements with your companies :P
EDIT: hah I got beat too lol
Katja 03-18-2006, 07:50 PM Ohhhhh, I guess I have to fix them after the upgrade *hits self on head* Sorry that you find ads annoying, but it costs money each time a guest visits a page, and there are a lot of guests :) It'll be fixed soon, I forgot my computer at home so I am on someone else's for the time being, I'll be home soon though (my spring break is over tomorrow!)
Thanks!
SSPrincess 03-18-2006, 07:52 PM They're only there if you're not logged in :confusionI logged out and then logged back in. They're still there. *shrugs*
With a forum this size, I do understand it's very expensive, and I don't really mind seeing ads on the top or even on the bottom of the page, but seeing them as a part of a thread is annoying.
Chez, I can't remember if I saw ads or not when I was a mod. :confusion I think this Google Ad in the threads is relatively new...I don't think it was there when we were mods.
Edit: Just saw what Lissa posted lol.

You didn't get them before because you were a moderator, and the forum was "free" for you. The google ads have been here for several months (I put them there when I was an admin), you're the first person I've seen mention the ads. I guess Lissa's ads are doing their job if you're noticing them :hehe:
They don't bother me at all!
Marta 03-18-2006, 08:57 PM Yeah, they've been here for a few months. I guess we should click on them
Owlie42 03-18-2006, 10:16 PM I don't mind them being there, because I understand that it's expensive. It's just that they're practically in the middle of a thread...

They're not in the middle, they're the second to last post in every thread. It's a good thing I didn't install the hack that put adsense in TWO places on every thread :lolol:
westernrider 03-18-2006, 10:56 PM Yeah - I have noticed the ads. It is just weird that sometimes I will see them and sometimes I wont. In some threads they will be on every page and on others they wont be there at all. Hmmm - but I can see how they would help money wise. :P
luvhartz 03-18-2006, 11:09 PM Hmm I see them too, I never used to a few months back though maybe that was because I was a member on the 13+?? I only just started seeing them :confusion when I did i was like "am I logged in??? huh..." bah ahwell they are annoying but im sure we can all understand
Douglas 03-18-2006, 11:18 PM I click on some hehe Like some hosting sites, but thats about it :D
tokyo bleu 03-18-2006, 11:24 PM This is the first time I've seen them, and I'm always logged in. But, it doesn't bother me at all because all Google ads are already blocked for me. If it's that big of a deal, use a filter. I don't even want to imagine how much it costs for a colleget student to run such a popular Web site. :scared:
SSPrincess 03-19-2006, 03:51 AM Allie, because of high school and then college I've really wasn't on the forum from about April to late December of 2005, so I don't think I would of noticed anything at all. So if you added them several months ago...well, I don't think I was on the forums to notice it! ;)
And like I said before, I do understand that this forum is expensive, but couldn't the ads be move to under the thread instead of in them?
Magln Meow 03-19-2006, 05:43 AM Oh no! ADS! :scared:
*runs away*

This is totally off topic, but I love your signature :hehe:
SUPER RP06 03-19-2006, 05:20 PM I noticed it too!. The Google ad thingy should move to the bottom of the thread!
Chris 03-19-2006, 07:26 PM I noticed it too!. The Google ad thingy should move to the bottom of the thread!
Ryan, you can't just demand things to be changed because you want them to be :)
Backlight 03-19-2006, 07:58 PM Ehh I really don't mind them.. Besides it's a way to make good money :)
Lissa 03-20-2006, 04:56 AM I like them where they are :D
allie 03-20-2006, 01:04 PM I like them where they are :D
Me too, they don't bother me in the least. I like your cinnamon roll lissa :hehe:
rainbow_monkey 03-20-2006, 06:19 PM I don't really notice them.... :)
Makar 03-22-2006, 05:08 AM I only just started noticing them 'cause they never used to be there for me. Not really a big deal, just an extra post in the thread. Or page.
iGeek 03-22-2006, 05:14 AM Clicking Spree for me :D I click on everything that seems interesting...
Useful, too. They don't annoy me :)
rainbow_monkey 03-22-2006, 05:19 AM I haven't clicked on any of them yet.
Well, except for once, but I accidentaly did it. :hehe:
Chris 03-22-2006, 02:56 PM Whenever I use Quick Reply in Firefox, I get directed to a white page - is that part of the ads? Nothing shows up, and I have to go back and refresh, or is it something else?

That's something else - probably a bug within vBulletin (I never use quick reply so I haven't had that problem) :)

I don't trust those ads. :P They don't bother me, but I wouldn't go clicking on them.
If I see a ad that I want to click then I will, but 99% of the time I dont click them, though I do sometimes by mistake and then get all annoyed as there are loads of windows open.
Edit - 1500th post yay
rainbow_monkey 03-22-2006, 07:00 PM Edit - 1500th post yay
Congrats! :cheer2:
Munchkin 03-23-2006, 01:10 AM I can see them, but they don't bug me-
plus, there's so many things new around here that I hardly noticed :D
Patrick 03-23-2006, 02:25 AM Chris, I get the same problem with the blank page when viewing in Firefox. Anyway, this website probably uses A TON of bandwidth and space, so I'm sure it costs a ton to host, especially because its a dedicated server. ;)
So I don't mind the ads. I like to click them. :D
*Jen* 03-25-2006, 09:40 AM I always get the blank page too.
