You could save all the pages, images etc on your harddrive and then zip them up and e-mail the file to yourself, or save it to disk if it's not too large.

Your ability to back up your entire web site into a zip file depends on the way your web host is configured. I don't know if any free web hosts offer this option, but it's really something they'd have to give you. My web host, for example, gives me shell access to my site - I can zip everything up and then download it via FTP.

I'd recommend sticking with FTP access to back up your site - if you have it.

Where is your web site hosted?

I have a feeling that unless you're some big corporation, you shouldn't have to worry about the hackers too much. Additionally, everyone is taking extra measures to keep themeslves from getting hit, so it will make it more difficult for the hackers.....

Geocities.
Thats where mines at. But i suppose it good to back your files up just in case u lose them or u're making a new layout or something.

Definately...that's always a good plan! I try and back up my computer once a month so that in the event my computer crashes, I haven't lost everything.

You shouldn't have to worry if you're on Geocities, its only big companies that they are going after (I hope, lol).

Well...CPanel has a "backup" option, so I'd just use that if I needed to backup my site...

yeah, you really don't have that much to worry about. sorry if that thread I posted caused some alarm, I just thought it was rather interesting/stupid that there was going to be a planned hacking contest :P

although 6,000 sites is a lot, it's really not all that many- geocities probably has more than that, and that's just one free host. of course there is a chance that your site could be hacked (I know of at least 2 members of this forum alone that have had instances of their respective sites being hacked), but the chances are fairly slim. I would imagine that these people are going to go for sites where they can do the most damage as easily as possible- so a relatively low traffic geocities site probably won't be high on their priority list.

At the same time, though, geocities hosts tons of web sites. Their association with yahoo, a huge corporation, doesn't help the matter. I still wouldn't worry though, as part of being a big corporation entails having good security. Also, yahoo probably has hundreds if not thousands of servers - no single server holds everything, so if one gets hit, it immediately goes over to another one.
