Let's say I want to make animated icons from an anime clip or a movie clip I have on my computer. How would I do it? What programs would I need in order to do it? I've seen such cute ones and I'd like to learn how to do them myself. Thanks!

I, personally, don't really like making animated things but to make them you need an animation program of course...try using: Animation Shop or if you want a different program, go to www.downloads.com. They have a huge selection of all types of programs you could use.

:bufly:

That didn't really help, lol. I already have programs to make animated things and I know how to make things such as those glittery names, but as I said in my post I want to learn how to make animated icons from CLIPS. Like, take a few seconds from a clip and turn that into an icon, know what I mean?

Yea. I get what your saying. I Think you still need animation shop. If you do get it its Incredibly easy. It took me 5 minuetes and I had made an icon already.

ARGH. This is not helpful people.

I need to learn how to make an icon showing a small clip from a movie.

I don't need animation shop because I already said I have programs for making animations.

Thanks.

ok well cant you open up the clip in your animation program, then delete the end or whatever part you dont want to show and then save it?! makes sense to me but then again i never tried it so... x_x

You can't do that because videos and stuff are in different formats, not .GIF, so normal animation programs wouldn't be able to open it up..

Okay, so I poked around a bit and I found out you need to convert the clip into a .mov. Can anyone tell me how to do that though? *eek*

Well what I usually do is open up the movie into PowerDVD and then capture frame by frame what I want and then open all the caps in Photoshop and stack them on top of eachother [and on top of the base of the icon] then I open imageready and animate it. [assuming you understand how to animate it.]

Yeah, I thought about that too and it takes a lot of screen shots! But, I could always resort to that if nothing works :)

I found a different way to do it though, I just need someone to tell me how (or what free program I can use..and if that's not possible a paid program) to change video clips, etc into .mov. Thanks :)

Convert video to GIF animation by VidGIF (http://geovid.com/VidGIF/) and create amusing avatars, animated logos for your website

Thank D_D, but that program is kind of cheap. lol. I would like something free, but their free version stamps their logo in the corner....not so hot.

I make animations from DVD's and video files all the time. All i do is open the file(s) in Power DVD and then use the C key to capture the frames and then i launch Animation Shop and put them in a standard animation, then set the frame rate and save it. It's easy. Do you mean like this?

Yes like that. I know how to take screen shots and crop them into icons...I was just hoping there was a program to make things faster and easier ;D

I have no idea of what the .mov way to do it is, but I use a program called VirtualDubMod that can take frame by frame screenshots. You can download it from http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/.

Now, time for a little tutorial.

Unzip the file to where ever you want to put it and then double click on the VirtualDubMod.exe file. Once the program is up, go to File-->Open video file... and choose which file you want.

Hit Crtl+G or Edit-->Go to... and select Jump to frame at time.Type in the time that is the start of the sequence you want (if I typed in 1:23 (I usually just ignore the .000 numbers), it would jump to the frame nearest to one minute and twenty-three seconds into the video). If it is a little off, you can use the left and right arrow keys to move through the frames. Hit the mark in button (second to the last and looks kind of like this: <_). Now, do Crtl+G again and type in the time for the end of the sequence. Hit the mark out button (the one to the right of the mark in button).

Go to File-->Save image sequence... Put in a file prefix if you want to, and if you want to change the file type, select it from the Output format drop down box toward the bottom. Put in 3 for the Minimum number of digits in a name. Choose which directory you want the files to be saved into (I just have a folder calld "Gifs") and leave the box at the bottom unchecked unless you know how to do jobs in VirtualDubMod. Click Ok at it should start saving your images.

I have no idea what animation program you have, so I'm not going to go into that.

Whew... That took a while. If you don't want to do this and want to try the .mov thing, I think I know of a free video converter. Anyways, good luck.

Are you talking about with VirtualDubMod? If so, then it cannot open ASF, or really Windows owned file formats, because of patent business. You'll have to either convert your file or find a different program.
