so...all you need is to buy the modem and you just use IE and thats it? i mean...do you pay for the internet with the modem? (go with me...im new at this!)

you should contact a local internet provider. possibly the one you are currently using for dial-up connection.

in some cases you will need :
a special dsl modem
an ethernet card
a special connection for "dial-up"

some places will have you pay to own your own modem, others may "rent" it to you.

you will have to pay a monthly fee for dsl connection just like dialup.

okay...first thing...i HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE aol...so i am not getting dsl broadband.

i was thinking about earthlink...there recent deal is $30 (US) for 6 months...then $50 for the rest. it says they give you modem and software free. hows that? still...you can't just get a dsl modem and use something to just use IE??

You have to pay for the internet connection no matter what type of modem/connection you have. You can't get it for free :P

no, you need to go through an ISP, meaning you have to pay and use their equipment, which is then connected to the Internet.

also, make sure you can get DSL, because you have to be within a certain distance of your phone company's nearest facility.

I get DSL through my telephone company, they set everything up and I love it. I would never go back to dial-up, especially since DSL here is only $10 more a month than dial-up, and my long distance calling is cheaper, I get a discount, so I only pay 2 cents a minute. Good luck with your DSL, you'll definitely love it.

Frontier? Is that the same as Frontiernet? Frontier is my phone company and Frontiernet is their internet service. I live in Iowa though.
