PROS AND CONS OF THESE directories? um, iono..
like.jpg, and stuff..

I hear alot of people wondering should I use .jpg or .bmp and blah blah blahh..Well here's a few pros and cons to some of them..

.BMP- PROS: Image comes out clean, clear, very nicely..
CONS: Takes longer to upload, some servers don't
let you use .BMP.

.GIF- PROS: For Animation,
CONS: Not that many colors, surprisingly sometimes takes longer to load.

.JPG- PROS: Most any server can allow these, A fair amount of colors.
CONS: Sometimes can distort your picture, Takes kind of longer to load, but quicker than BMP.

.PNG- PROS: Very clear, good picture. Doesn't distort or mess up your picture. Good colors.
CONS: Takes long time to load, some websites don't allow you to upload .PNG

feel free to add to the list, those are the only "image types" that I know...

gif is generally for a drawn or logo type image. allows transparancy.

jpg is generally for a photo type of image. does not allow transparancy.

png would be a superb format, but IE6 has a problem with the alpha transparancy (or something like that, cant recall right now.)

bmp should be avoided. it is very large in every way.

.gif is better if you have text on your image as you get cleaner lines.

Don't forget that although .gif can only have 256 colours - they can be ANY 256 colours if you use an optimised pallette - so that could be 256 shades of blue for example.

NEVER USE *.BMP's

If you can try sticking to

a) *.gif's for logos, buttons etc.
b) *.jpg's for photos, scans etc.

Also, don't use *.jpeg's always use *.jpg
