Hi all,

i recently downloaded some files which i have a special folder for. one file was an .exe file that i needed and i unzipped it etc well ok it was an 'automatic extract file' the ones that automatically unzip theirselfs. Anywayz, after i unzipped it i trew away the 'downloaded file' because i didn't needed it anymore.

Now everytime when i restart the pc and i go into that folder i find some new files that i didn't even downloaded.....

does someone know how to stop this? also it replaces .mp3 with an .scr file (which i don't know what it is) so that it isn't able to play anymore and i can delete it.

thanks, btw if hope this is not against the rules of the forum. I wasn't sure of it. If anyone feels like closing it then go ahead :)

Love,
Mirna

I'd do a virus / trojan scan if I were you - NOW.

do like kaliyoda said then check in the 'msconfig'. if it's checked uncheck it that way it doesn't start up at startup ('start up at startup' does that make sense :confusion)

I did the virus scan thing, nothing to be found. Now i downloaded some new files yesterday and today when i looked nothing was changed, so no new 'unwanted' files....

Hope it stays like this. I have no idea..

how up to date is your virus scanner? if you haven't updated it in a while (even a week or two ago is a while), you probably should. that sounds suspicious and sounds like it could be a virus.

my virus scanner is from 1999 LOL, but i did an update etc... still nothing to be found.

now i opened my folder again, and there was one file, a hidden one because it's viewed with an icon that hasn't got the opacity of 100% if you know what i mean. Anywayz, i deleted it didn't opened it or tried to open it.

what i wonder is, do updates from those old virus scanners even work? are those updates really from NOW or from THEN?

the scan won't catch all viri (plural for virus :)).

you'll need to find the application that's generating the files and get rid of it or prevent it from running. try going into the msconfig and see if it's there. if it's not there try the registry. basically you want to find out where it's getting started from and dumping it.

have you tried to look at the files in a text editor? DO NOT run the file just try and see what's in it. it might hold some clues inside of it.
