I recently realized that when making food at home, Chris and I have about 3 recipes that we rotate  We can never find a good recipe to make, especially since we don't like seafood :( Does anyone have any recipes that they love, or maybe a favorite recipe?

Oh I love to cook - I could give you a few recipes. I have one for chicken and rice soup - it is sort of one of those "family recipes" that my grandma came up with. You might not be interested - but if you want to take a risk  here it is (I personally like it a lot but you might not :P)

Chicken Rice Soup

2 or 3 boneless, skinless, chicken breasts (I put these in the water frozen) There is no fat- if at all it is miniscule.

Put on Stove and cover with water.

While the chicken is cooking - prepare the rest of the soup. Usually takes about 30 minutes from start to finish.

3 Stalks of celery.
2 Onions (you can use more). Onions really give the soup its flavor.
1 Or two carrots.

I have a Cuisinart and I place these in the food processor.

Add to water with the chicken breasts.

Use Seasoning Salt(Lawrey’s)
Garlic Salt
Pepper
Parsley Flakes
Season to taste

¾ cup of uncooked rice.

By this time you can take the large pieces of breast out of the broth. I place them on a plate or cutting board to cool.(Just takes a few minutes) There is a yucky muscle at the top that I like to remove because it tastes like rubber and a small piece of soft tissue. After I have removed this I place the chicken in the Food processor. You just have to pulse a few times for it to be cut up fine. Place in the chicken broth mixture and when the rice is done you are finished. Sometimes you will have to add water as you add each ingredient. The rice will make the soup thicker. If it is not seasoned to your liking you add more of the above seasonings.

It is really vague - because it was just sort of made up. But you can try it if you like. :P

Meatloaf (I promise it's good!), Boneless chicken breast cooked in a lot of spices and fried with olive oil in a skillet (my dad gave me the recipe for that one), and spaghetti  We make roast chicken too, but that isn't really that hard :P

Edit - Ooh, thank you Sophie! That sounds really good, I love soup  We have all of those seasonings too, yay :D

Actually, my mom JUST called and said "You can keep our crockpot, we just bought another one!" My parents let us borrow it, and I guess they just gave it up, which I don't at all mind!

How ironic

Yep, there are a bunch of yummy things to make with a crockpot. Really, all you need to do is stick in some meat, vegetables and spices...and pow! Out comes a delicious meal ;)

It's also great to do if you have a busy schedule.

If anyone knows of any good things to make for one person I'd appreciate it too, it gets really boring just making chicken or eating leftovers :P
One meal you can't go wrong with though is chicken and Swiss Chalet sauce... throw in some French fries, make a Shirley Temple and you've got Swiss Chalet at home  And the best thing about Swiss Chalet sauce is that is goes good with ANYTHING, even desserts.

Hot and Sour Soup:

10 dried shiitake mushrooms*
1 1/2 cups boiling water
3 cans low-sodium chicken broth
4 oz pork chop, cut into thin strips (I usually use frozen roast turkey or chicken. just drop it in)
4 oz firm tofu, cut into 1/2 in. cubes
2 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar (I use regular vinegar)
3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup green onion tops (I don't use them. But that's okay.)
1 teaspoon dark sesame oil

Combine the mushrooms and boiling water in a bowl; cover and let stand 15 minutes. Drain in a colander over a bowl, reserving 1 cup liquid. Discard stems; rinse and cut caps into thin strips.
Combine 1/2 cup reserved mushroom liquid and broth in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Add the mushrooms, pork, and tofu; reduce heat, and simmer 3 minutes. Combine 1/2 cup reserved mushroom liquid, cornstarch, vinegar, soy sauce, fish sauce, and peppers in a small bowl. Add cornstarch mixture to saucepan; bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in onions and oil.

*if you can't find the mushrooms, use half a can of chicken broth and an equal amount of water.

No I don't  OHH I have that homemade noodle one, but that's it :P

Owlie - that sounds awesome too, I'd probably substitute the chicken broth for mushrooms just because I don't like them :lolo: Can you taste the fish sauce? :scared:

No, it makes up part of the overall flavor, but I don't think you can taste it specifically.
