View Full Version : Best & Worst Christmas Songs
Blakelyn 12-15-2005, 04:21 PM This thread has probably been done in previous years, but I thought it would make for a fun discusson. What, in your opinion, are the best/worst Christmas songs out there?
My favorite Christmas song is "Santa Baby", but I dont know why.
The absolute worst one has to be Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" - they've been playing that stupid song for, like, the last 15 years. It's so old, and I wish they wouldn't insist on playing it on every pop radio station 20 times a day from Thanksgiving through Christmas.
Magln Meow 12-15-2005, 04:27 PM I love Christmas songs! :D
I like "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" mainly because it's fun.
I think my least favorite is... is... "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"... I don't know, I never get snow here. So it makes my sad. :P
Monkey Bizzle 12-15-2005, 05:04 PM "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"
That song is soooooooooo booooorrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnngggggg. It seems to drag on and on and on...
My favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night. I don't know what the worst one is.
lefty 12-15-2005, 05:32 PM I haaaaaate "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." It's the most ridiculous song I've ever heard, if you even want to call it a song.
My favorites include Carol of the Bells, Little Drummer Boy, and a bunch more I can't think of right now :P
psychochick 12-15-2005, 05:47 PM i like joey ramones xmas album... 12/25 by the us bombs... the entire vandals "oi to the world" album, i love a gun for xmas and oi to the world... such a good album, so hilarious
Monkey Bizzle 12-15-2005, 06:24 PM ...Carol of the Bells...
I can't believe I forgot about that song! I have it set as my ringtone on my phone =P I love that song, and also "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
Magln Meow 12-15-2005, 06:36 PM "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
That song gets annoying. You never know what they hear if I remember correctly.
lefty 12-15-2005, 06:42 PM They hear the news about the birth of Christ :P
Monkey Bizzle 12-15-2005, 06:50 PM You never know what they hear if I remember correctly.
They hear a song, high above the trees, with a voice as big as the sea...
sisqoluv 12-15-2005, 06:51 PM I dislike most Christmas songs, lol. BUT, I've always loved "Oh Christmas Tree"
psychochick 12-15-2005, 06:54 PM yeah, i hate most xmas songs cause theyre religious and im an atheist, and im just not into the holidays, seeing all the rich people w/ their crap and the card companies... i just dont believe in it. but i like a few xmas songs, cause they kind of anti xmas songs
Monkey Bizzle 12-15-2005, 07:04 PM Man... there are a lot of songs that I forgot about! When I first read this thread I could only think of stuff like Jingle Bells LOL! Some other ones I enjoy are Up On The Housetop, Jolly Old St. Nicholas, and The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire...)
lefty 12-15-2005, 07:08 PM ...im just not into the holidays, seeing all the rich people w/ their crap and the card companies...
Poor people celebrate Christmas, too :confusion
Blakelyn 12-15-2005, 07:25 PM I hope that even those who are atheist can get something out of Christmas, even if they don't believe in Christ. It's still a time to enjoy the people around you, and do good things for others. I dont disagree that Christmas is extremely commercialized now, and I'm guilty of of that myself, but that shouldn't discourage people from enjoying the season.
lefty 12-15-2005, 07:28 PM I believe that there's nothing to celebrate without Christ (Christmas? Hello?), but let's not get into a religious debate here.
Blakelyn 12-15-2005, 07:40 PM ^I believe the same thing because I'm Christian. I'm just saying that I hope those who don't celebrate Christ can still enjoy the season.
jessi15 12-15-2005, 08:24 PM I have 2 favorites: Carol of the Bells and that Band Aid one (Do they know it's Christmas?).
Now, for the worst... The Christmas Song (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...) It's just the images of retarded kids in my class :P As well as one of the 2 most overplayed songs on the radio (The other being Happy Christmas - John Lennon)
Angelica 12-15-2005, 08:29 PM My favorite is "Mary did you know," but only the version by Kenny Rogers and Winona Judd. No Clay Aikens!! Ick!
My least favorite is Feliz Navidad! I HATE that song and they are constantly playing it on every single station.
Monkey Bizzle 12-15-2005, 08:34 PM My least favorite is Feliz Navidad!
AHH!!! I hate that song, too!! It's so annoying!
Blakelyn 12-15-2005, 08:38 PM Another of my favorites, which I bet a lot of people hate, is "Christmas Don't Be Late" by the Chipmunks.
Christmas, Christmas time is near
Time for toys and time for cheer
We've been good, but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast
Want a plane that loops the loop
Me, I want a HULA HOOP!
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas, don't be late.
Angelica 12-15-2005, 08:54 PM AHH!!! NO NOT THAT SONG! (Not as bad as Feliz navidad but still...)
Now one I really think is funny is "The Funny Chipmunk Song" Muahaha! (So I can be a little sadistic sometimes.)
Chipmunks roasting on an open fire
Hot sauce dripping from their toes
(“Oh! That tickles!”)
Yuletide squirrels fresh filleted by the choir
They poked hot skewers through their nose
(“Ow! Wrong end, ya cowboy!”)
Everybody knows some pepper and a garlic clove
Help to make them seasoned right
Tiny rats with a crisp golden coat
Will really hit the spot tonight
And now when Santa sees his tray
(“`` `` `` `` `` ``”)
There’ll be some homemade chipmunk jerky for his sleigh
(“Mmmm…Hey, look at that!”)
And every hungry child is gonna spy
To see if chipmunks really sing when they fry
jessi15 12-15-2005, 09:29 PM AHH!!! NO NOT THAT SONG! (Not as bad as Feliz navidad but still...)

That's just wrong! Ewww! :scared:
The chipmunks christmas song is annoying, but not too horrible. I should watch the christmas special -_-
SUPER RP06 12-15-2005, 10:27 PM My favourite Christmas song is: Jingle Bell Rock
My least favourite Christmas song is the hippo Christmas song, it goes like this: I wanted a hippomantius for Christmas... Something like that. I don't like that song!
Akshamala 12-15-2005, 11:52 PM I haaaaaate "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." It's the most ridiculous song I've ever heard, if you even want to call it a song.
I absolutely hate it as well.
starlet 12-16-2005, 12:08 AM I love..."Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" it is my ring tone at the moment :)
I can't stand that snowman song, I forget what it's called now but it was sung by Aled Jones and was the theme to the movie of the same name, when I was a kid I'd cry when it came on
jessi15 12-16-2005, 12:18 AM *sings to Starlet* "Frosty the snowman...."

It's a cute song, but it gets annoying after a while. ;)
starlet 12-16-2005, 12:23 AM *sings to Starlet* "Frosty the snowman...."
Thankfully for you it wasn't that one :P
I just googled it, it's called 'walking in the air' :scared:

There's another obnoxious snowman movie/song?! Save us!!
psychochick 12-16-2005, 01:43 AM Poor people celebrate Christmas, too :confusion
yeah but i mean a lot of rich people go to my school and it sucks to see them w/ all their new clothes and stuff when me and my friends are more poor and we dont really get much and its just stupid, cause i dont care about materialistic things, and that seems like thats all xmas is now...
Neglected 12-16-2005, 02:00 AM I agree with vtangyl, ewwww...mariah carey...

I dont disagree that Christmas is extremely commercialized now, and I'm guilty of of that myself, but that shouldn't discourage people from enjoying the season.
I'm an atheist, and I like Christmas. It's all warm and fuzzy. And it gives me a perfect excuse to bake cookies...
I hate any version of "White Christmas" except Bing Crosby's...Most of the modern Christmas songs annoy me. I like the more traditional carols (throw in the full choir and an organ!), the TSO's Carol of the Bells (on the CD it's "Christmas Eve in Sarejevo"), Enya's Gaelic version of Silent Night, Silent Night and O Tannenbaum in the original German, O Holy Night, The Wexford Carol, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Loreena McKinnet's version), "Wassail, Wassail" (I can play a rather cool "fiddle" version) and "Here We Come a Wassailing" (yes, that's what it's called. The American version seems to change it to "caroling" because "wassailing" would imply alcohol consumption  ) There's probably more.

I like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer". I think it's funny. o_o But I'm just destructive lately. ^^;;
I really like "Little Drummer Boy". I wanted to sing it for a Christmas Party this year until I got a flu. Dx
My least fave is "Jingle Bells Rock". Well, I don't dislike the song itself but whenever I hear it, it always comes from the big dancing Santa prop that I find disturbing. ._.;

I like Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer on occassion. It's funny. In a cute, although semi disturbing way.
starlet 12-16-2005, 04:36 PM I also love the 70s stuff like Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday and Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody and of course Wham - Last Christmas

Agreed. Bing Crosby is the only one who can sing White Christmas right. And I know the "Here We Come a Wassailing." That's the version I sing anyway. Not too alcoholic for me ;) I don't think you always have to have alcohol in wassail anyway. I saw a recipe for wassail without it. Hmm...
I forgot O Holy Night though. Il Divo sings a beautiful version of it, but I think Josh Groban does it best. Then again, I just love Josh Groban.
