Every time I try to use my paintbucket/brush/pencil etc etc the colors won't work. They just turn out gray. How do I fix this??

Try this : Go to the Image menu, select Mode, then select RGB Color.

Also, when you create a new image, make sure that you have the color mode in the dialogue box set to RBG as well.
