I'm having a bit of a problem with my 'puter and I was wondering if anyone could help. For some reason, view source has stopped working for me! At first, I thought the site I wanted to... erm... borrow information from was protected until I tried doing it on my site, too. For some reason, the notepad box won't pop up! I have the option to view souce, but my computer won't let me. :( What can I do?

I wouldn't suggest cleaning up cookies, since you might have "automatic login" here on the forum so when you delete you all have to log in on everything you had 'automatic' before

see this thread about more information on how to delete your TEMP files (also the hidden ones that you can't delete on your own) without deleting cookies.

Oooo! I never thought of cleaning out my temp files! Thanks, guys! I must have missed that thread you pointed out, Mirna, when I did my search. :) Thanks for showing it to me!

Instead of going into DOS mode, I went up to Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files. I hope that does the same thing!

i'm not sure but there's a way to check it

do that tools thing again, and RIGHT after that go to C:\windows and right click on "temporary internet files" the folder. Then select "properties" and see how many MB or KB there is inside that folder. If it says there is still something in it then run into DOS mode after all, because that one clears everything, including the hidden files (that you can't see even if you select "let all files see" or something like that)

Good luck ;)

Mirna

just so you know, in Windows 98 Second Edition at least, when you go to Edit > Select All, it prompts you with how many hidden files there are, and whether or not you'd like to select them, too. just choose Yes, and you should then be able to delete them also. or, you can display hidden files by going to View > Folder Options > I think it's the middle tab- with a bunch of check boxes. toward the top there's an option to hide or show hidden and system files.

I wish I could do that. :( I have Windows XP, and their layout is all confusing... Thanks for your help, though! I just wish I could find the folder with all of my temp files in it.

no offense really, but i said that you can't see these files in any way not with "show hidden files" on either....

that's odd, because when I do that, I can see every file in every folder. that's why I pointed out how to select the hidden files, because whenever any files are present, you can still select them- with Windows 98 SE, at least. but, it could be a difference between versions (do you have 98? first or second edition?), or some kind of preference settings.

i do have 98.... but not sure with version because we don't have a basic one that's all i know for sure. When i view hidden files i only see a few, when i delete them all and i cleaned my trashbox and then go back to right click on the directory i still see i have some MB left in it. weird.....
