Yeah, I think they use lots of food coloring. There are probably hundreds of cereals that are healthier (and some that are worse). and no Blue food is not natural.
I have pretty much never eaten lucky charms.

yeah. I'd say they have a bit too much food coloring. But people buy it so it must be working.

Dude I used to love lucky charms when I was a kid. I would eat all the cereal first, and save the marshmallows for last, and eat them in order (hearts stars horseshoes, clovers and blue moons etc etc etc). And then with alphabits I would do the same thing. Like not go on to the B's until I couldn't find anymore A's.

I loved being a kid, because you could be OCD all you wanted and no one bothered you. :> Like we cared about food colouring back then, eh?

Have you forgotten fresh picked blueberries? Most certainly natural. But I really hate lucky charms. Bleh. Too much sugar and food dye. It's really gross. When I was a kid my diet was just plain weird, but now, those days are over. I've been eating "healthy" for nearly two years now. I'm going to stick to it.

haha I did that, too! I remember when they came out with the rainbows, that was the coolest thing in the world

I don't eat them anymore, though. In fact I don't eat sugarly cereal at all. They all contain way too much sugar and claim to be "healthy" but they're not (check a box of cheerios, even... I'm pretty sure some form of sugar is the second ingredient on the list).

Am I the only person who's wondering what's wrong with food coloring?

I don't care so much about the food coloring... it's the artificial sugar.

the only "bad" thing about food coloring is that it changes the color of your mouth. Kind of fun sometimes though. Specially when it's red.

Yeah, I used to eat the grains first and then save the marshmallows for last. Now, if it's the only cereal left I'll just eat it like I'd eat any other cereal. All together.

Blueberry juice isn't really blue though, it's more purple-ish :P

I never really liked Lucky Charms that much as a kid. I was more of a Count Chocula person :buckt:

Yeah, but the outside of a blueberry is blue, and it dyes your teeth a bluish-purplish color.

Well, if you can give me more of a reason then "and yeah" then I'll believe you. But until then, I'll continue to eat my massively dyed foods.

I did some quick research and it seems that some people think that red #40 causes ADHD and OCD and stuff, and other dyes also cause behavioral problems. could it be that around the time kids are eating stuff like that, those types of problems start to show? I doubt that one is because of the other. and I saw one anecdote about someone's kid being calmer after he stopped eating cereals and things like that- I bet she probably wanted him to seem more relaxed, so he did. and if anything, the sugars would probably cause more things like that than the dyes would.

I think there are probably a lot more harmful things that people should be more concerned about than food dyes...

I don't like Lucky Charms, and I don't like those electric blue Gatorades/ Powerades because it does look singularly unnatural, but I don't really have a problem with food coloring in itself.

Hey, remember when Fruit loops only had three different colours? Red, yellow, and orange! And like every year they would add a different 'fruit' to the cereal. I used to keep a real close watch on Fruit Loops commercials when I was little. :P

I was more of a Count Chocula person :buckt:
That's funny, because I just bought a box of Count Chocula this evening at the grocery store! It was actually inspired by this thread too, 'cause I was thinking "Man I haven't had sugary cereal in a while."

You put baking soda in the fridge because it absorbs the odors from foods, so they won't seep into other absorbable substances like milk and ruin the taste. That stuff must be pretty nasty after ten or so years...
