Hey everyone, I'm curious to see if any of you have careers or jobs or do freelance, etc.. in web design.

I was thinking of going to school for it but I'm not so sure if theres a lot of work out there anymore for website designers. Also I wanted to go to a technical school but Ive heard mixed reviews on places like Devry and Chubb.

Anyways, any comments, advice, etc is welcome.

and Hi Im new. :waves:

I'm 16 and I have my own web page designing business, and I teach web page designing classes. Right now it's just a to earn a little bit of money...I'm not sure if it'll be a full-time career :)

There's always a lot of business for web designers, especially if you can promise new and better for companies with crappy web sites!

You will certainly have to compete with other Web designers who offer high-quality work for not a lot of money if you're going "freelance". Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I view it since I've seen a lot of personal freelance Web designers.

its just like anyother industory that is contantly changing, you have to keep on your toes, learn the latest updates, latest codes, and have creativity too

I tried going to a technical school for networking and hated it, expessially when i found out you still had to pay for the certifications
(I wwent to HTI)

its one of the few technological carreers today you can get without a degree.
school is really good to learn how to professionalize your work and see what your compitition is, and network yourway into a job. Most technical school have short enough days that you can work your way through, and pay for the certs as you go and they arnt so bad. The "degree" so called you get from the school isnt worth anything, its the certs that get you the job

and everything you need to pass the certs is on the web

, My opinion, and my OPINON only, would be to go to community college, pass certs on your own, and that way if you want to do anything else you have a degree, you have certs

do webpages on the side for extra cash and you have a portfolio...

um...I've said to much...I'llleave now

I want to learn as much as I can, especially flash, clean css (I'm awed by what it can do! I have to bookmark a few pages now), graphics programmes, etc. So's I could maybe just do some freelance design and it'll be handy anyhow :)

I work in the field now, more or less. It's mostly Flash I do, not much HTML. It's not a well-paying job (I was a draftsman before, that paid better), but it is fun.

I'm going to a tech school now while I'm in high school, and the one I'm at has partnered with local colleges so that when I finish my classes here I only have to take like 30hrs at one of the colleges and I'll have my associates. Very cool.
