Are you asking if somebody else will host you, or how you can host other people?

Basically, you create a directory for them so they can upload their files. Then their url becomes http://www.you.com/them (or http://them.you.com) - you need a domain and the feature must be available by your host (unless you want to share passwords with them).

you'll also need a web server and an ftp server if you want to host other people on yourself.

do you want someone else to host and you share an account with other people? i'm not sure what you want.

Are you trying to host individuals that you know, or a large number of people through automated sign-up?

Well, in any case, the first thing you need is a domain and hosting. If you want to host individuals, you need to make sure that you hosting provider offers you multiple FTP usernames and passwords. If you want to host through automatic sign-up, then you need to install a proper script - and make sure you have plenty of bandwidth!

if you want to do the hosting you'll need:
1. computer
2. high speed internet connection (with static ip)
3. domain name (unless you want to use an ip only)
4. dns service (your isp will resolve the domain name for you. unless you're using an ip address then you don't need it)
5. web server (or application server)
6. ftp server
7. firewall

you do like alcy said, just create a directory for some user and the url will look something like 'http://www.whateverdomain.com/someuser/'. create an account for each user and they'll be able to ftp into that directory and do what ever. then they're happy and your happy and life is good :)

i don't have any of the urls right now but i can post it later or just pm me. if you want to host other people it's not hard. i actually do it too and it's no big deal. you just have to keep your computer on all the time.

Nicely said amicus, basically you need to run your own server to do it legally, but there are several catches.

1.) You can't use your regular ISP like Comcast, or AOL High Speed, ETC, it is illegal.

2.) You have to have a Business DSL/Cable line to do it legally.

3.) A server OS. In example Windows 2000 Advanced server with Apache etc

Have fun!

I also run a server, its nice when you get used to it!

Altough I do recommend a seperate computer to host, and I DONT recommend using Window's Build in IIS.

And if you are good with *Nix, *Nix it the way to go.

you will need the cgi-bin folder to work this script. here's the url to the script: http://www.cyberscript.net/. it's free, but you can pay for the licence one.
