Are we doing a Secret Santa this year? :)

It does sound fun. We would get to make :present: for each other :) We would just need someone to organize it.

Of course we're having a Secret Santa this year! Last year was fun :) I felt bad for the people who didn't get a present though, because whoever got them just wasn't active anymore!

Maybe only people with a minimum amount of posts? Or would that be too mean...?

yeah that would be a bit mean... maybe an activeness (love that word ;)) cut-off date... like if someone hasnt been active in X amount of time, they cant be entered... but it would be cool to have a secret santa lol

Secret Santa is so much fun! We must do it again... Of course, my presents were really weird. Eh, I'll hopefully do better this time... lol, well whenever we have another SS I would be happy to participate.

Yeah we must remember to make back-up gifts, then it only takes a few people who have made them to hand them out to the poor people who didn't get anything and they end up happy and with more than most of the rest of us heh

Mid-November sounds about right, bare in mind though that there is quite a lot to do...'sign ups', organising the pairs, sharing info about our likes and whatnot and then of course the gift giving and recieving!

We need to work out who's going to run it though, it's sizz who normally does it...we'll have to check to see if she still wants to do it this year (since she isn't quite as active these days, she may not) and if she doesn't someone else will need to take over :)

From someone with only two hundred and sixty some posts, I think you shouldn't do the secret santa based on amount of posts, but on the activity. But maybe make it so the people actually sign up just in case someone can't do it or doesnt want to. That way, no one is left out who wants a gift. Or did someone already say that?

Yeah post count isn't a very good method, because people can postpostpost and get 5,000 posts in a day (goodness I hope not), but some can just lurk but be faithful. So we'll have to figure out some kind of method :P

Yeah Sizz is the one who normally does it (or who started it and has run it for 2 years :stickout: ) she popped back last year to organise it so maybe she'll do the same this year :D The first year she became my secret santee because of some complications with my previous one but other than that she hasn't participated in it :( Maybe there could be some minor arrangementes to change that! Somehow? =)

We usually give maybe graphics or do something special through the net to our secret santee, yes web based, most of the time. But last year there was a real present sent out by someone here (was it Munchkin to Marianne?) and I thought it was pretty awesome :D I might think of doing that this year :)

Basically, everyone who's registered for the Secret Santa will have their names drawn to someone else's. The S.S. organiser will then PM everyone with their 'Secret Santee' and then you would have to make a present (cyber-ised or anything) and on the Presentation day, present it. :)

I was starting a thread like this yesterday (I, too was inspired by someone brainless enough to bump a very old thread) -but then I thought: "nah, it's only October" hehe.

As for the rules, I would say people who have been here a year or longer? Or would that be too harsh? I would definitely be in favour of not letting new people in (people that have been here less than 6 months).

Yes, did anyone not receive a present last year who's still around now? But, one person who didn't turn up was a regular-getting-unregular-member Kicker, I guess he was busy :/

But the restriction idea (arr that's not a nice word :| ) is quite needed, it's not nice when you don't receive a gift after waiting hopefully. Everyone should be responsible, but how can you make it so? :confusion

that type of thing is fine... you could make icons in different sizes so that way if the person doesn't have an LJ, they could use it as an avatar or something.

Yes, I think that if people sign up, they should be promising to follow through. People shouldnt participate if they dont plan on making a present.

And as for the name part, we should probably start getting it organized soon. That way the person in charge will have time to notify everybody, and everybody will have time to make their presents. :)

The person in charge will have an even list of people who want to join. Then they'll write the names down, and draw out names so if the first name I pull out is "adrielle" then I'll draw another one that name will be the person adrielle will give her gift to. Then you get that persons name draw another name then that new new name will be the giftee (i like that word) lol.

On the day of gift giving, there will be a thread. If you have a graphic link it, if you sent it by snail mail say what you gave them (after they get it) I suppose. That's pretty much it. You can make whatever you want, a card, graphics, flash cartoons, etc...

We all join (probably with the exception of newer member so ppl won't end up without a present).
Our names get sorted by the organiser, he or she picks them out of a bowl or whatever, and links ppl to one another, then pm's us individually the name of the person we have to make something for.
So then we make an avatar, an animation, anything we can think of, or perhaps even something tangible for that person.
Just before X-mas, there will be a new thread, where ppl post the name of the person they had to make something for (for example, I might say: "hey, Viki, I was your secret santa this year, and your present is located at: www.mydomain.com/secret_santa_4_viki), and we all go "aaawwww, that is so nice", and then we do it again next year because we enjoy the sensation so much.
