View Full Version : Watch the CPU's burn, burn!
Here's a video where they film CPU's with there heatsinks removed, the Intel chips just slow down and freeze, but the AMD's fry... anyway, here is the link: http://www.metacafe.com/item26293/GMAME
The poor AMD cpu's.
BTW, anyone sure what game is playing in the background?
SUPER RP06 10-24-2005, 09:43 PM It's so cool! And maybe educational.
The Intel CPUs with the cooler removed has a low temperature (around 30-40°C), and it may be safe to the touch. The AMD CPUs have the higher temperature of 250-350°C, and it can cause burns if you touch it.
yeah but what happens in that chip which brings it to 290-370c???

Just to note that this AMD cpu's are the early K7 CPU's since the Athlon XP (palomino) AMD CPU's have a integrated temperature sensor and motherboards that will close computer down when it overheats. I once have had a XP 1800+ without heatsink and it stopped in 1 sec without it so there was no damage. And it can't be possible that that pentium CPU stays at 30/40 degrees. I hope people won't get the wrong idea and thinking that AMD is hotter then intel. Nowaday CPU's the desktop Pentium's are WAY hotter then the AMD's do and there performance is also less good. So when you buy a new computer don't let this movie influence your choice.

elektricity leakage mainly and just opening and closing gates uses energy
Sphere 10-24-2005, 11:03 PM Oke i watched the movie. But there are some strange things: They talk about a 1200 Palomino. Palomino's start at 1500+ (1333 mhz) SO i think its a Thunderbird? Palomino's have a internal temperature sensor and the motherboards have overheat protection. Athlon XP and Athlon 64 won't burn if you move the heatsink.
Tom's hardware isn't that objective. I heard many stories about people that even think that they are sponsored by intel.

One day, I downloaded this software, called SpeedFan. (http://www.speedfan.org/speedfan.php) and it helps you monitor the fan speeds and tempratures of the computer. When I ran it, the reading for my laptop was quite high, 45c. But it later progressed and made 70c! That is crazy, how could my laptop run it's CPU at 70c, without errors??
whoa 290-370c from just opening and closing gates???????!!!! pretty hot.
The game might be one of the Halos

70 degrees isn't a big problem for CPU's but its quiet hot yes. Silicium starts to get other properties at around 110 degrees although then the chance that your cpu is broke is pretty big. Also Speedfan does not always gives the right values. sometimes just the sensor bad or the program reads it wrong. I regularly have temps below zero and stuff like that. The best way to see the temp of your CPU is in the BIOS. Every manufacturer gives a maximun guaranteed working temperature with their CPU so if you want to know if 70 degrees is really to hot tell me what cpu you have and i can search the max temp for you.

Do you see any energy turning into light (when it not burns :P) or sound then?
Monkey Bizzle 10-25-2005, 04:14 PM BTW, anyone sure what game is playing in the background?
Looks like Doom III
I have a PIII in my laptop, a compaq armada w/ docking station attached. the battery life is 3.5hrs.
kewl, Doom III. Looks good...
rockybaba 10-27-2005, 10:09 AM is CPU's I dont undastand
are you asking whats cpu's i dont understand?
if you are, then CPU's are the brain of a computer, or the Central Processing Unit. Remove the cooler from that and you PC will go up in smoke. Literally.
and you asked twice.
benjibo 10-27-2005, 04:01 PM i can just imagine that happening to my somputer:P:lollol: my computer coming up in flames!
