View Full Version : They tease me about my car!
Marianne 09-16-2005, 10:13 PM I've had my current job since January, and after 9 months in this job, my workmates still tease me, every single day, about my car!
I know my car is a girly-girly car, and I do plan to buy something bigger (safer in case of an accident) next year, but until I do, they will not ease up about my car.
They call it a pimped wheelchair, they ask me if it runs like a Flinstone car (if I have to move my feet to move the car), they ask me why I drive on the highway, instead of the cycling track where I belong, etc. etc. etc.
Funny enough, that only makes me like my car better. Yes, it is one of the ugliest models ever made, but that's what I like about it, it sure looks different.
On the Internet, I found something that really made me laugh - guess my workmates are not the only ones who feel that way about a Ford Ka.
This is what I found (author unknown):
Dear Dr Frint
I am writing to you about the Ford Ka. I see that this ‘vehicle’ retails in the UK at up to £12,000. Have you any idea what you can buy for that amount of money? I have made a small list:
· 48000 Twirl chocolate bars
· 20000 bottles of Rolling Rock
· 400 nights of pleasure in Bangkok
· Lifetime fishing rights for Lake Superior
· Six weeks in the emperor suite of the Sheraton Skyline hotel in Jamaica.
Given this evidence, I would suggest that you are failing miserably in your role. In fact, comparable levels of incompetence in other professions would have seen the Egyptian Pyramids made entirely out of chicken feathers, the creation of an index for the Oxford English Dictionary, the giraffes at Chester Zoo being housed in the aqaurium, and a large, expensive and pointless dome being erected in Greenwich.
Not since the day I paid £132+VAT to the Clematis Installers (Self-installation option) has anyone been so badly taken in by such a miserable scam.
I look forward to seeing a more realistic pricing structure put in place in the future. Perhaps, for example, the car could be swapped for Panini football stickers or bartered for unwanted livestock.
I would warn you that I do have the power to effect change. I was, after all, the man who ended the careers of UB40, simply by pointing out to them, in a succinctly worded letter, that they are not, in fact, black men. I believe they are still in therapy.
I look forward to your comments.:lolol:
MaGiCSuN 09-16-2005, 10:30 PM hahaha i'm SO going to show this thread to one of my friends
she is totally crazy about those Ford Ka cars :P
I think they are cute, well it sure is handy with parking ! :P
i currently have a car aswell, for 3 days ... borrowed it from my aunt and it's really small aswell. But i like it, since i'm a short girl !
Love,
Mirna
luvhartz 09-16-2005, 11:02 PM only thing i dont like about KAs is they are alittle cramped in the back and dont have enough bootspace for us.. yah.. id hate to have to go out with ym mum and dad and 18yr old brother in one of them.. especially if it was hot and a traffic jam..
SUPER RP06 09-16-2005, 11:38 PM I searched on Yahoo! on Ford Ka.
It brings about 8,910,000 sites/webpages
This is the most resonable one
http://www.ford.co.uk/ka
Marianne, how much is the car, and what year is that car?
Rosey 09-17-2005, 12:13 AM it doesn't look too bad..there is worse!
starlet 09-17-2005, 01:29 AM I love Ka's...i'd get one if I could drive!!
salomeyasobko 09-17-2005, 04:54 AM i usually don't like fords but that one's really cute! :buckt:
Peter 09-17-2005, 09:01 AM there are actually smaller cars on thew road than the "big" ford KA,I have to do the driving in a daihatsu cuore, which is twice as light as that KA,my collegues are crying wolf about how unsafe it is and how slow, well,i beat them with they're big volvo's at the stoplight.
marianne, they are just jealous, and by the way, they are paying up for the gas usage and you are not.
Marianne 09-17-2005, 09:07 AM Oh, I don't think they're jealous LOL. I kind of like the Ka jokes.
The first one I ever saw in the Netherlands was in 1997 I think. My cousin Rachel had told me about this new car model that was totally hideous, and the very next day she spotted one across the street, so she dragged me across the street, yelling: "THAT'S THE CAR I WAS TALKING ABOUT, LOOK! ISN'T THAT THE UGLIEST CAR YOU'VE EVER SEEN?!" Right at that moment, the proud new owners were returning to their car. Luckily they had a sense of humour hehe. From that moment on, I wanted to buy one, and two years ago I finally did (at that time I didn't know I was going to drive as much as I do, since I wasn't in a secure job then).
I agree that the Ka is kind of ugly, with those immense bumpers, but I think that's what makes it cute. I would not recommend it as a family car, but most of the time I'm in the car alone, and I'm only 5.4' so it's definitely big enough for me. And it's true, they are handy when it comes to parking, especially in this country where parking spaces tend to be so small.
The reason I want a bigger car is that I drive over 70 kilometers per day, most of it highway, and bigger cars tend to protect the occupants better if you ever have an accident (unless you're stupid enough to drive a Landwind).
adrielle 09-17-2005, 10:25 AM  I love those letters, i just read this similar letter about the ghastliness of Peter & Jane. Man i suffered under those books, scaarred for life.
*cough* backontopic, it's cute :D it looks pretty similar to this local car we have here, I forgot what it's called though :buckt:
Haha whenever someone capitalises LOL at the end of their sentence I always think of lindsAy LOL. :hehe: </offtopic>
Dude128 09-17-2005, 08:08 PM the front end looks a little like the Ford Focus (which is apparently a terrible car- a friend of mine had one before Ford had to buy it back because it was a lemon :P I guess the entire instrument panel had issues, like sometimes the odometer would only register like 2 miles when you drove 20, and it started on its own in the middle of the nigth a couple times before he finally disconnected the battery while he wasn't using it)
I drive a 1992 Honda Accord. it's not that small or anything, but it is on the old side and it has its share of dings and things in it, but I kind of like it- it's in decent shape (only 95,000 miles), it's not too small, and it's not too big...
I don't have any problems with driving a small car- maneuvering it would be easier, better gas mileage, and the massive cars are for old people (or police- Crown Victoria, anyone? :P)
iGeek 09-17-2005, 08:31 PM I like it :D My sister has this awesome '66 Ford Mustang, its so cool!
luvhartz 09-18-2005, 12:14 PM personally id never get a big car unless i had to have it, its suprising how many big cars there are now, that are just rediculous big. its those ones that i you get hit by them your more likely to get killed..
Monkey Bizzle 09-19-2005, 05:44 AM Ford Ka
daihatsu cuore
I don't think we have either of those in the US... I'm definately not disappointed though LOL! I have definately seen better looking cars =P But if you want to see a REALLLLLY ugly car, you should see my husband (http://www.carpage.hu/civic-07.jpg)'s... Now that's an ugly car LOL! (some sort of Honda Civic...)
My first car was a yellow '91 Geo Storm. My second car was a silver '96 Honda Civic LX, and my current car is a maroon '02 Dodge Neon...
Rosey 09-19-2005, 06:10 AM luvhart i have to disagree, if you get hit, you are more likely to be ok in a big car but it also depends with what the car is made.
With some of the SUV there is a bigger chance of them rolling over but a straight hit, i feel safer in my jeep.
I have a jeep and an eclipse. I love the little car but i am grateful for the bigger one especially like today when i had to pick up a mattress for my daughter's bed.
I have heard that kias are flimsly but like my jeep has reinforced steel in the doors and if someone (or if i) hits me head on to where the engine would go through the dash, it will drop. I love that about my jeep.
Some guy rear ended my jeep going about 35-40 while i was at a dead stop, it totalled his car, the front of his car was all smooshed. My bumper was bent and that was it.
And if anyone starts the gas thing and SUVs...my jeep uses less gas than my cougar ever did.
mb: that is an ugly car...lol but not as bad as those Elements...ewwww
Dude128 09-19-2005, 08:25 AM mb: that is an ugly car...lol but not as bad as those Elements...ewwww
I'm a fan of Hondas, but I don't know what they were thinking with the Element or the Insight. and there's a reason the station wagons (although I thought they were only made in the Accord- but they don't look like that. that must be really old) were short-lived...
I think some of the ugliest cars on the market in the US are the Aztec (is that still made?), PT Cruiser, and the Element...
Lissa 09-19-2005, 01:54 PM personally id never get a big car unless i had to have it, its suprising how many big cars there are now, that are just rediculous big. its those ones that i you get hit by them your more likely to get killed..
Um, how about the people in them? :P People shouldn't be hitting other people anyways!
I have an old M-Class, even with these gas prices I don't think I'd trade it in. <33 I think the Ford Ka is adorable (isn't that the car in Just Married?), I don't think I could drive in it though because it's so tiny! I had a Mitsu Eclipse, and THAT made me feel claustrophibic :( I like being high up off the ground, I'd drive a minivan
I think some of the ugliest cars on the market in the US are the Aztec (is that still made?), PT Cruiser, and the Element...
Wow, the three cars that I think are ugly as sin too! I wonder what they were thinking when they made those :confusion
Monkey Bizzle 09-19-2005, 06:23 PM ...I thought they were only made in the Accord- but they don't look like that. that must be really old)
that isn't a station wagon... I forgot what it's called but it's shuttle something or aero shuttle... i dunno exactly but it is really old. It's an 81!
The Aztec is ugly but it really is a neat SUV... I went with a friend of mine to a new car show and we looked at the Aztecs. That thing has so many cool features that would be useful to someone who does a lot of outdoorsy type things.
Dude128 09-19-2005, 06:39 PM it must have been called a wagon- I looked on edmunds.com on the used car appraiser (because it allows you to select the make then model and style of any car), and it lists hatchback, sedan, and wagon.
regardless of what you call it it's ugly, though...
Makar 09-20-2005, 01:04 AM Aww I dunno, I think it's kinda cute too...I mean I can see where people would say it's ugly, but at least it's not PT Cruiser ugly. :P
I have an '87 Honda Accord and it is in no way attractive (except to me 'cause I like old cars :>), but it does have the advantage of being larger and therefore more safe than say, some of the Civic models. What kinda bigger car are you thinking of getting?
lefty 09-20-2005, 01:28 AM Aww I dunno, I think it's kinda cute too...I mean I can see where people would say it's ugly, but at least it's not PT Cruiser ugly. :P
 That's the best thing I've read all day.
Although I must admit, I'd prefer the PT Cruiser over the Element :P
Douglas 09-20-2005, 02:15 AM pt cruisers are ugly lol, i dont like the inside :(
Kerri 09-20-2005, 07:31 AM I think the Ford Ka is cute. I would get a smaller car, if I ever got my license  The Element is so ugly. it's scary. The first time I saw one I said "What it the blazing shackles is that!?" I looks like a lego car or something.
lefty 09-20-2005, 03:41 PM ^ Odd that you mention that... because I found this (http://www.ericharshbarger.org/lego/images/3_small_things/element_3.jpg) in searching for a picture of it :P
Marianne 09-20-2005, 06:10 PM Ever seen a Multipla? That car makes my car look beautiful hehe.
Monkey Bizzle 09-20-2005, 08:12 PM I have an '87 Honda Accord...it does have the advantage of being larger and therefore more safe than say, some of the Civic models.
Funny thing is, the older Accords are about the size of the newer Civics LOL!
Everyone is saying how ugly the Element (http://automobiles.honda.com/models/exterior_gallery.asp?ModelName=Element) is... What about the Scion xB (http://www.scion.com/showroom/xb/gallery/)? I can't decide which is worse =P
Marianne 09-20-2005, 08:57 PM Those are seriously ugly cars. It is nice though, of the manifacturer, to hire a blind designer ;)
Do you think they can beat the multipla though?

Urk.
Elements and Scion xBs are UGLY cars, though. Box on wheels.
My car's okay. It's a 1999 Honda Accord. (It seems really strange calling it "my" car now.)

:( they are very ugly
Dude128 09-21-2005, 02:59 AM I don't know why, but I don't think the xB is all that hideous- in pictures it looks awful, but I saw one on the street and it didn't really stand out to me as being terribly ugly.
Rosey 09-21-2005, 03:12 AM oh those are ugly, the scions..eww...i don't like any car that looks like that.
i don't like these either: http://www.chevrolet.com/aveo/
Monkey Bizzle 09-21-2005, 05:19 AM oh those are ugly, the scions...
Not all of them are ugly. The tC (http://www.scion.com/showroom/tc/gallery/) is a nice one I think.
Rosey 09-21-2005, 05:57 AM yeah that one does seem nice, i meant the boxy ones
Monkey Bizzle 09-21-2005, 05:59 AM yeah that one does seem nice, i meant the boxy ones
I see a lot of them around here though, more than the Element... Maybe it has a lot of cool features or something... who knows?
Rosey 09-21-2005, 06:00 AM we have a lot of elements....

i don't have a dream car....maybe I'll just get me a yellow bug :stickout:
Monkey Bizzle 09-22-2005, 06:39 PM ...maybe I'll just get me a yellow bug
Assuming you are talking about the Volkswagen Beetle; I had to take my behind the wheel driving in one of the new ones... I *hated* it! The blind spots are HORRIBLE!
adrielle 09-22-2005, 06:48 PM Oh really? I never thought about the driving aspects of having a car yet lol. I was mainly interested in the model..and thinking more about having a cute little vintage-ish car ;P
Monkey Bizzle 09-22-2005, 06:49 PM Oh really? I never thought about the driving aspects of having a car yet lol. I was mainly interested in the model..and thinking more about having a cute little vintage-ish car ;P
Well, I'm a tall person so if you are short, maybe it would be different? And I'm not sure about the original beetles. I was just throwing out my 2 cents LOL!
Peter 09-22-2005, 06:52 PM the old volkswagens were cool,my personal favorite is a 1976 golf gti(rabbit in the usa) because of the basics in it,i also love the scirocco because it's the only sports coupe volkswagen had bavk in the days(not counting the corrado).
the new beetle is awesome to drive,i still think it isn't a girls car,i know somebody on vwvortex that has a vr6 twin turbo in it and that thing flies.
i can't wait until next year when my foxy volkswagen fox comes in:)
adrielle 09-22-2005, 07:09 PM I googled the Golf gti thingy and i think my uncle owns that car! I'm not really into cars so i don't know exactly what a girl's car should be heh
Well, I'm a tall person so if you are short, maybe it would be different? And I'm not sure about the original beetles. I was just throwing out my 2 cents LOL!
Heh I'm around 5'2"+ (I hope to grow! haha), I'm sure you're a whole head taller than me!
I liked the old beetles :)
Monkey Bizzle 09-22-2005, 07:24 PM ...i don't know exactly what a girl's car should be...
I remember something I saw once that determined the top 10 gay guy cars, and top 10 gay girl cars. So I guess the top 10 gay guy cars would be girlie cars and vice versa? *click (http://www.cartalk.com/content/features/Gay-Lesbian/nominations.html)*
adrielle 09-22-2005, 07:30 PM ^ I guess?
they don't look very girlie-sh to me though :confusion or maybe I just have a warped sense of girlie to what I like :stickout:
Monkey Bizzle 09-22-2005, 07:37 PM they don't look very girlie-sh to me though
are you talking about the gay cars or the lesb!an cars? The lesb!an cars look like guy cars to me because they are mostly trucks and SUVs. The gay cars don't really look girlie, except for maybe the Sebring and the Beetle (sorry Peter LOL!)
adrielle 09-22-2005, 07:45 PM  I forgot to check :P
well, the Beetle does :hehe:
ZacEv 09-23-2005, 04:46 AM lol i duno wat those cars are im in aussie
adrielle 09-23-2005, 11:33 AM You could google the car model names ;)
