It does seem like yesterday. I can't believe how fast time flies. I'll be glad when they finally start rebuilding on the site.
SUPER RP06 09-11-2005, 04:30 PM I've been watching the coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I know it's the 4th anniversary of 9.11 terror attacks. What do you compare the 9.11.01 terror attacks in the USA, the 3.11.04 bombings in Madird, Spain, the 7.7.05 London (UK) bombings, and the devastion and recovery of Hurricane Katrina?
in memory of the victims of 9.11.01, please give a minute or two of silence
Did you know that 911 is also an emergnecy number? (to call police, fire or ambulance) (Other countries may have a diffferent emergnegy number).

You can't compare the 2. Terrorist attacks don't have to happen, and can't be predicted... Hurricanes are natural disasters that happen regardless of what you do.

-_- I agree with MB you can't compare a natural disaster to a planned one. It's not like some person called up the FBI and threatened New Orleans with a massive hurricane

In the UK the emergency number is 999...plus todays date is not 911 anywhere else in the world, to the rest of us it is 119.

Yeah, every1 pretty much noticed that one right off, though. They also said you could see the devil's face in the smoke from the buildings.
I can't believe it's been four years! It still seems so recent. Everyone was scared to death. At my school, we were watching it on TV until the principal came on the intercom and told us to turn it off and continue with everyday activities. They even went around to the classrooms to make sure the tvs were off! Can you believe that? history being made and we didnt watch it on TV. We knew nothing and were scared to death the rest of the day that something else would happen and we would be the last to find out about it. (Not only that, but the city where I live is right next to a huge military base and so a bunch of people started thinking that the terrorists would attack there next.)
Dude128 09-11-2005, 08:01 PM it does seem like yesterday- I remember exactly where I was when I first heard about it/saw it on TV... physics class. second row. second seat in from the right side.
one of my friends was absolutely hysterical all day- her father lives and works in New York City (I'm from about 70 miles north of there), only a few blocks away from the World Trade Center, and she couldn't reach him. she kept trying to call his office and apartment all day until she finally got in touch with him- and he was fine. but I'll never forget that. and supposedly at least one of the planes flown into the WTC flew right over my area- what if it had crashed like the one in Pennsylvania? kind of a scary thought.
it's amazing how much that day changed the way everyone goes about their lives- I wouldn't say that I'm scared to go about my daily life now, but you can't help but think about it once in a while. last school year, the first week of school, there was a major blackout on my school's campus and all the dorms affected were evacuated, and we had no idea why- it turned out to just be an equipment malfunction on the university's power grid, but of course the thought of terrorism crossed most peoples' minds, especially because the campus has a large symbolic building (that they've since boosted security around- they just installed large remote controlled posts in front of the couple driveways so that nobody can drive into the base of the building). and I'm majoring in civil and environmental engineering- at least one of my professors has already raised the issue of security for things like water supply/treatment plants (it's a course in environmental engineering), and how since 9/11 engineers have had to think about things like changing/designing new access roads to be curving and that obscure the facility so that you wouldn't be able to take a truck and get enough speed as you would be able to on a straight driveway to drive it into the building...

i kinda can imagine how your friend felt yeah ... my grandparents where up in the air flying to canada when it happened. We counted the hours that they where already flying and it was possible that the plane included them ... we didn't freaked out or anything but we did had a thought that it could be possible that something has happened.
thank god it wasn't the plane my grandparents had..
but it happened.. and live goes on ..
salomeyasobko 09-12-2005, 02:06 AM why do people always refer to them as bombings? there were no bombs involved.
short_gurli 09-12-2005, 04:19 AM whoahhhhhh........i totally forgot about 91...its today! whoahh...
Douglas 09-12-2005, 10:01 AM i was just getting to school, they told us world trade centers got hit, we didnt know what he was talking about, no tvs in our class so we didnt watch anything, i was in grade 4

That photo was an editted picture lol
Blakelyn 09-12-2005, 01:32 PM I agree that life goes on, but it should still be acknowledged. Life doesn't go on so easlily for those who lost their child, husband, fiance, father, mother, etc. no matter how long ago it happened.
The attacks were done on 9/11 purposefully because 911 is the emergency call number here in the US. Its no coincidence.
MaGiCSuN 09-12-2005, 03:53 PM why do people always refer to them as bombings? there were no bombs involved.
that's a good point ... never thought so much about it that way :)

true .. but when someone of my family died there aren't 5 channels who broadcast whole shows about something that happened 4 years ago ..
i know this is much bigger, and you can't compare .. but one channel that broadcasts a memorial program to them is more then enough in my eyes. Here in Holland there are 3 channels everyone can see, so why don't they do it on one of those channels and let the others just broadcast the normal programs? it's always so overrated to me .. sorry

it was still a bombing (and in a way the planes acted as bombs)-
v. bombed, bomb·ing, bombs
v. tr. To attack, damage, or destroy with or as if with bombs.

I dont think it should be on every channel, but I do think it should be recognized. Maybe not in Holland, but definately in the US.
Douglas 09-13-2005, 10:52 PM did you guys ever see that movie fahrenheit 9/11, i liked it lol, it made sense
