Active guestbook won't work with tripod because tripod automatically puts ads at the top of your pages.

Okay, i am done with Tripod :D service stinks, I move to NetFirms, which is recommended by Active Guestbook. So, I am not following the instructions and hopefully I will get it! I really wish I had a domain... :(
to learn about CGI, you can do a normal search in a search engine for a CGI tutorial. there are many out there. you can click on my WWW button for an example of one.
tripod has a very limited CGI capability.
if you have PHP capabilities, that is usually touted as much easier to learn and use.

The site w3schools.com (http://www.w3schools.com) , has a lot of really good information. Plus it has this try-it file that helps you learn the information, so much better!! Good Luck!!

For hosting CGI scripts, try:
http://www.portland.co.uk
Although they only have very limited bandwidth and space. And beware... when you have downloaded the active scripts guestbook, be sure to change the config file to:
#/usr/local/bin/perl
otherwise it won't work.
Apart from low bandwith, Portland is actuall quite good.

www.dot.tk offers free domains.. only one pop-up ad. Small.
If you can't afford a domain, I recommend that.
