View Full Version : is your website valid? iTom 09-01-2005, 08:42 AM Cool, I validated my website, now I'm happy! :guitar: Paco 09-01-2005, 09:18 AM Cool This might sound stupid, but what is it? luvhartz 09-01-2005, 09:44 AM cool, i dont mean to burst your bubble or anything but, when i visit your page (IE) the second red corner thing is over lapping the text i dont know if you ment to do that or not.. but i thought id let you know all the same. congrats! iTom 09-01-2005, 09:54 AM yeah i know that, its to do with my css... but at least the corner is transparent... iTom 09-01-2005, 10:11 AM is it valid by w3.org's web standards. for me, yes. my page is valid HTML 4.01 Transitional. Cherchezlafemme 09-01-2005, 10:49 AM *groans* not another w3c thread -_- Just because your site is valid doesn't mean it's has all te elements of an exelllent website... That's why I love www.csszengarden.com <3 lefty 09-01-2005, 02:11 PM Mine's probably not  iTom 09-01-2005, 03:22 PM I like csszengarden.com, it is rather interesting. I have tried making a skin / template for it, but failed on the graphics side. starlet 09-01-2005, 05:09 PM I've never checked, though i assume it isn't for many reasons (including coloured scrollbars :P) Douglas 09-01-2005, 05:12 PM i have valid css and xhtml 1.0 transitional Monkey Bizzle 09-01-2005, 05:18 PM the validator at http://validator.w3.org/ only checks your index page. Some people don't know that. If you want to check all your pages at once, use this one: http://htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/ and check "Validate Entire Site." Douglas 09-01-2005, 05:21 PM validator.w3.org checks which ever page you want not just the index page Monkey Bizzle 09-01-2005, 05:25 PM validator.w3.org checks which ever page you want not just the index page Yes, I realize that. However, i was saying that some people think that since they type in their URL, and it's valid, that their site is valid. In reality, when you type in your URL, it only checks the index page. And why would you want to manually check each page at http://validator.w3.org/ when you can go to http://htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/ and check a box and it does it for you. Black Jack 09-01-2005, 05:31 PM No it isn't because I don't have one! ;) pb&j 09-01-2005, 06:36 PM Cool This might sound stupid, but what is it? comparing your webpage coding against a standard set of coding rules set by the W3C organization. iTom 09-01-2005, 07:04 PM Originally Posted by Starlet I've never checked, though i assume it isn't for many reasons (including coloured scrollbars :P) Yes, coloured scrollbars don't help. sisqoluv 09-01-2005, 08:56 PM I've checked a few times, and my issue will always be colored scrollbars, which I refuse to give up, lol. Oh, and my other issue is that I don't have that "DOCTYPE Declaration". *shrugs* I've checked my sites in other browsers a while ago, and the only big difference was the lack of colored scrollbars and in FF, one of my iframes was a few px over from where it sould have been (but it probably only looked that way because of the scrollbars not being the color I intended). As long as a site has content I want to view, a layout that doesn't conflict with the content (ie, I can read it), and I don't get a virus everytime I go to the url, I could care less if it's valid right down to the T. Yes, coloured scrollbars don't help. They help make a page look more "prettyful" The scrollbars on Starlet's page are a nice touch, and I'm sure the plain ones throw the whole layout off. thezeppzone 09-01-2005, 09:45 PM Well, a popup script that I have in my code for my blog gives it trouble everytime I think about checking it, and I am just too lazy to take it out lol. Every other professional site I do though I validate to the farthest I can, css included... sjb 09-01-2005, 10:57 PM My site, isnt valid because i use <noindex> tags because of my search bar, because i dont want it indexing the menus... maztrin 09-02-2005, 12:09 AM i want my site to be valid but i just cant b botehred anymore. it looks ok the way it is at the moment. when i get my own domain i will probably validate it! aviegrace 09-02-2005, 01:27 AM i don't care. what's the point? what is the real standard actually? who sets it? hdshngout 09-02-2005, 02:23 AM i dont really care either. i just make sites for fun, so as long as they work and look ok in differnt browsers, who cares. pb&j 09-02-2005, 08:45 AM just an fyi ~ you can still have a valid page with color scrollbars, just a bit of javascript required. i posted it a couple times in the css area, so if you like, just to a quick search there and it should appear up. adrielle 09-02-2005, 10:19 AM I don't really care, but I don't have a site anyways :p But if I do I might just do it for the...cheese of it :P Cherchezlafemme 09-02-2005, 10:42 AM I don't really care, but I don't have a site anyways :p But if I do I might just do it for the...cheese of it :P the cheddar is mine *attacks* adrielle 09-02-2005, 11:07 AM no you don't, I need it for my..........health! and sentence! *grabs* netaholic 09-02-2005, 02:47 PM ...alrighty then=P yeah, my site is anything but valid. but i have a button on my site that explains why; it says 'incorrect coding is more fun'. unbeknownst 09-02-2005, 11:38 PM I don't know... hdshngout 09-03-2005, 01:03 AM i dont think too many people worry about it. Even the big sites (ex neopets, msn, google, yahoo etc) aren't even 100% valid. The only one that was that i saw was w3.org. *Jen* 09-03-2005, 07:59 AM No, I have 2 errors. iTom 09-03-2005, 10:34 AM 2 errors ain't bad.. Paco 09-03-2005, 10:52 AM I've got 77 errors acording to http://validator.w3.org/, but I could not really care about it. iTom 09-03-2005, 05:57 PM well, i only had 7 when i first validated mine, some were pretty basic, but now i've got one! one single error caused by my counter! starlet 09-03-2005, 06:00 PM Just checked mine for the 1st time ever....164 errors  I'm gonna check my other site now...27 errors. Fun. iTom 09-05-2005, 05:12 PM fun... i fixed the one error! yay! luvhartz 09-09-2005, 09:18 PM i had 35 and still do, they are all because im dodgy with spaces.. i put them in when i shouldnt so what? Douglas 09-09-2005, 10:14 PM woo hoo no errors in my whole site except the phpBB, all valid xhtml 1.0 transitional :D:D onigiri 09-09-2005, 11:35 PM all valid xhtml 1.0 transitional :D:D Same here. MaGiCSuN 09-11-2005, 12:19 PM nope it isn't, but i really can't care about it it looks good in most browsers, so that's it :) Love, Mirna allie 09-11-2005, 02:29 PM I like this guy's opinion about Web standards: http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/biggest-web-design-mistakes-in-2004.html Check out # 3 :) Greywing 09-11-2005, 09:55 PM Well, last time I checked I had valid CSS and valid XHTML Strict 1.0. |
